Type: | Fungi and Bacteria |
Leaf Spots are circular lesions found on the leaves of plants, caused by either bacteria of fungi.
Symptoms and Signs
[edit | edit source]Initial infections are small, circular spots, usually with a differently colored zone on the outer edge. Severe cases cause distorted leaves or blight.
Life Cycle
[edit | edit source]Spores or bacteria overwinter on fallen leaves or buds. Growth is favored by moist conditions on the leaf surface.
Host Range
[edit | edit source]Most of the pathogens are quite selective.
Controls
[edit | edit source]- Cultural Controls: Prune or thin to allow good air circulation.
- Physical Removal: Clean up thoroughly in the autumn to reduce the amount of spores.
- Chemical Controls (synthetic): Neem Oil, Copper-based Sprays
