A crumble is a type fruit dessert which usually features a layer of sweetened fruit covered by a loose, often oat-based, dough, which is "crumbled" on to the fruit. Unlike the layers in a cobbler, the layers in a crumble are quite shallow. Once baked, the topping blends into the top of the fruit layer. Since there is generally not enough dough to completely cover the fruit, the baked result is a cracked topping with the color of the fruit seeping through.
