Why do admins keep their reviewer rights?
[edit source]markAdmins shows me that Kittycataclysm, MarcGarver, Leaderboard, and Xania are all both administrators and reviewers. Why isn't the reviewer right removed when adminship is granted? JJPMaster (she/they) 14:44, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- I don't think it matters. However, speaking for myself I added +reviewer to myself after I was an admin because at the time (just after the launch of flaggedrevs here), the review function didn't work properly for admins. I can't remember why, but it is possible it wasn't included in the permission set for admins originally. MarcGarver (discuss • contribs) 17:52, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Xania was already an admin when he was autopromoted to reviewer. Leaderboard, I left their reviewer rights in place when promoting to admin. This must have been deliberate because I removed uploader when promoting to admin but I can't remember why. MarcGarver (discuss • contribs) 18:20, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- and finally, based on this comment from the original request to set up flaggedrevs here, it is possible that admins needed to be added to reviewer initially (i.e., that review rights were not in the sysop group)
- The configuration section of FlaggedRevs.php in svn suggests that sysops and bureaucrats can't review and validate pages without belonging to the editor and reviewer groups. If this is the case than sysops and bureaucrats need to have all the editor and reviewer rights set for them as well, so that sysops and bureaucrats have the rights to 'review' and 'validate' pages.

I have a problem when editing here
[edit source]When I try to add information to a file in my user space I get 2 options:
Edit
or
Edit source
I used edit source and had no trouble but edit seems be problematic, least for me.
Just wondering if I am the only person at wikibooks experiencing this? Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (discuss • contribs) 16:44, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Ottawahitech: "Edit source" opens the text editor, while "edit" is the visual editor. You can hide it by adding to your Special:MyPage/common.css the following:
#ca-ve-edit {display: none !important;}
. I only now just decided to figure out how to do so, but it does seem to work. — L10nM4st3r / ROAR at me! 16:59, 24 January 2025 (UTC)- @L10nM4st3r, Thank you for the speedy response. I was preparing to move on to another wiki, since this is not my home wiki (for now?).
- As far as changing my CSS I would not dream of doing something that may put mypriacy in danger (I think?) Ottawahitech (discuss • contribs) 17:20, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
- Css is only styling, it doesn't actually execute any code that can do anything, other than change how things look. Now, when you'd be suspicious of me, is when I suggest you add some JavaScript thing to do something as simple as hiding a link. That is the one you need to be careful about. — L10nM4st3r / ROAR at me! 17:22, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
Moving/renaming books
[edit source]Hi, I want to rename Introduction to Crochet to Crochet as it's evident that this book will probably involve far more than basic stitches, including free patterns, etc. I'm not sure whether subpages are automatically moved or if I have to do those separately. I also don't want to break anything in Wikibooks. Bastique (discuss • contribs) 19:25, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- They will not be automatically moved. On some WMF wikis, there is a user group that has special rights to mass move pages, I don't recall if it exists locally. Since there are only a few subpages, manually moving all of them shouldn't be too cumbersome. Just make sure you check "what links here" after you move each one to make sure there are no double redirects and you should be good. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 19:56, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Koavf: Only administrators have the
move-subpages
right, but all reviewers can use the MassMove script. JJPMaster (she/they) 20:26, 7 February 2025 (UTC)- Nice. Thanks. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 20:40, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- Just trying to recap what has been said here so far:
- There is a user right called move-subpages on enwb
- Only administrators at enwb currently have this right
- If a user who is not an admin wants to mass-move a book with all its subpages to a different name, they can approach a friendly admin and convince them to carry out this mass-move.
- Is this correct? pinging @Bastique @JJPMaster @Koavf Ottawahitech (discuss • contribs) 13:50, 16 February 2025 (UTC)
- Or the user (if they are a reviewer) can use the MassMove script. Bastique (discuss • contribs) 00:52, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Koavf: Only administrators have the
