Ever Grande City, known as Saiyū City (サイユウシティ Saiyū Shiti) in the original Japanese, is a fictional city in the Pokémon series located in the Hoenn region. The city consists of two parts: the area before Victory Road, which has a Pokémon Center, and the area after it, which contains the Hoenn Pokémon League building.
Victory Road
[edit | edit source]Victory Road is a large cave that leads to the Pokémon League that contains many trainers aspiring to reach the Pokémon League. At the end of the cave, the player fights Wally, a young boy that the protagonist helped towards the beginning of the game. However, in Emerald, he is battled near the beginning of Victory Road. After the player defeats Wally, he will continue to train in the cave and the player may face him again with higher-leveled Pokémon. He is recorded in the Trainer's Eyes section and players can see when he wants to rebattle. Many other people can be battled in Victory Road, generally with fully evolved Pokémon around their Level 40's. However, none of them are as major as fighting Wally.
Some Pokémon found in Victory Road include:
Two families of rocky Pokémon, those being Aron and it's evolution Lairon, as well as Geodude and it's evolution Graveler.
The fighting type Pokémon Makuhita and it's evolution Hariyama.
The poisonous flying Pokémon Zubat and it's evolution Golbat.
There are also two version exclusive Pokémon, both rather mysterious. In Ruby, Mawile can be found. In Sapphire, Sableye can be found.
Hoenn Pokémon League
[edit | edit source]The Hoenn Pokémon League is home to the best trainers in Hoenn. Like with previous regions, the player can heal his or her Pokémon, buy items, and challenge the Elite Four. Each member of the Elite Four also specializes in a single type. The members of the Elite Four are:
- Sidney- He specializes in Dark-type Pokémon. He has a Mightyena, Cacturne, Absol, Shiftry, and Sharpedo. In Pokémon Emerald, his Sharpedo has been replaced with a Crawdaunt.
- Phoebe - She specializes in Ghost-type Pokémon. She has two Dusclops, two Banette, and Sableye.
- Glacia- She specializes in Ice-type Pokémon. She has two Glalie, two Sealeo, and Walrein.
- Drake - He specializes in Dragon-type Pokémon. He has two Flygon, Shelgon, Altaria, and Salamence. In Pokémon Emerald, one of his Flygon has been replaced with a Kingdra.
The Hoenn Pokémon League is the sole building in Ever Grande City when visited in the games.
The Champion
[edit | edit source]In Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, the Champion is Steven Stone, a trainer that specializes in Steel-type Pokémon, and he also uses Rock and Ground types. He has Skarmory, Armaldo, Cradily, Claydol, Aggron, and Metagross.
In Pokémon Emerald, Steven resides in a secret area of Meteor Falls, with the same team, but at higher levels, and has been replaced with the former gym leader of Sootopolis City, Wallace, a trainer that specializes in Water-type Pokémon. He has Wailord, Gyarados, Tentacruel, Ludicolo, Whiscash, and Milotic, only two of those Pokémon being owned by him while he was gym leader.
Demographics
[edit | edit source]With a population of only 7, Ever Grande City has the smallest population of any city in Hoenn and possibly the smallest town in all of the Pokémon series of games, other than Mt. Silver. In fact, it is entirely possible that all apparent residents of the island live elsewhere and commute.
