A Conversation

John is visiting an Arabic country when he is approached by a man named Abdullah. Abdullah greets John, who speaks very little Arabic, and a conversation begins.

عبدالله: السلام عليكم جون: وعليكم السلام. هل تتكلم إنجليزي؟ .عبد الله: لا، آسف جون: عفوا.

Transliteration

Abdul Allah: as-salaamu 'alaykum
John: wa 'alaykum as-salaam. hal tatakallam ingileezee?
Abdul Allah: laa, aasif.
John: 'aHfwan. laa atkallam 'aHrabee kateer. ma' as-salaama.
Adbul Allah: ma' as-salaama. furSa sa'iida.

Translation

Abdullah: Peace be on you.
John: And on you be peace. Do you speak English?
Abdullah: No, sorry.
John: Don't mention it. I don't speak much Arabic. Goodbye.
Adbullah: Goodbye. Happy to have met you.
