BarCamp - How to Run Your Own/BarCamp Code Of Conduct

From Wikibooks, open books for an open world

In my experience, I have never had to enforce a Code of Conduct at one of my events, but this does not mean that we should not have them. It is always important to prepare for every eventuality, and should something occur at one of my events, then having the Code of Conduct to justify my response is much better than having to act without preparation and clear guidelines.

I use this code of conduct, which is a amended version of BarCamp LA's code;

BarCamp Manchester is dedicated to providing a harassment-free unconference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of our attendees in any form. Any attendee violating these rules may be asked to leave, at the discretion of the conference organiser.

Harassment includes intentional behavior which is found threatening or disturbing, including that related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, or religion; deliberate intimidation; stalking; following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact; and unwelcome sexual attention. Attendees asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

If an attendee engages in harassing behavior, the conference organiser may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the conference. If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact the conference organiser immediately.

The conference organiser will be happy to help participants contact venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the conference. We value your attendance.

Drugs and Alcohol

Illegal drugs are strictly prohibited. Alcohol may be consumed once the evening meal has been served. Please drink responsibly, and do not drive while under the influence.
