Levels of Detail
[edit | edit source]Biology is a vast subject. There are many levels of detail that one can cover even within an introductory biology class. In order to make it easy to judge the level of detail covered, the text pages are color coded by difficulty level. Green pages should be easily understood by young or casual readers. Orange pages require a bit of background knowledge. Purple pages are designed for college level students. The pages are marked on the index by colored leaves, and on the pages by a solid bar across the top of the page.

For Future Authors
[edit | edit source]Feel free to add to this book, but please try to be consistent with the philosophy of this book. The book is designed first and foremost to be an introduction to the topic for those who know nothing about it. The goal is to make it possible for people to understand the major ideas and concepts of biology even if they are young, or new English learners, or unfamiliar with technical language. By phrasing everything as questions, we allow new scientists to get an understanding of the world in the way scientists first discovered them. By asking why, and looking for the reason.
