Identifying a vintage watch can be frustrating. Only a few have any easy means of identifying when a particular watch was made. Timex mechanicals and electromechanicals after 1962 have a model number on the dial, the last two numbers correspond to the year made. Bulova brands after 1948 have a 2 character code-The first digit is the decade, the second is the year. Waltham and Elgin have serial number databases on-line covering early watches. For some watches the only clues are the movement and the overall style--Even the brand name may not explain anything.
