Cardinal numbers

[edit | edit source]Different forms of the words for the numbers 1 and 2 are used for masculine, feminine and neuter gender.
- едно (ednó) = one (neuter)
- един (edin) = one (masculine)
- една (edna) = one (feminine)
- две (dve) = two (neuter and feminine)
- два (dva) = two (masculine)
- три (tri) = three
- четири (čétiri) = four
- пет (pet) = five
- шест (šest) = six
- седем (sédem) = seven
- осем (ósem) = eight
- девет (dévet) = nine
- десет (déset) = ten
When referring to men or groups of men and women, often different forms are used: двама, трима, четирима, петима, шестима, (седмина, осмина, деветима).
11 to 20
[edit | edit source]Informally the final "т" is not pronounced. These are the shortened versions of the numbers. The long (and very formal) versions end in -десет instead of -йсет.
