Etymology: 'Caeno' and 'rhabditis' derived from Greek, means 'recent', referring to Pleistocene epoch (2.5 million to 12000 years BP), and 'rod-like' respectively. 'Elegans' is derived from 'elegant' due to the elegant sinusoidal movement of this nematode.
