Algerian lemonade (شربات, Lemon Cherbet) is a refreshing Algerian drink. The drink's name differs depending on the various names for lemon throughout Algeria (Cherbet Elkarass, Cherbet Lim, Cherbet Laymoun). It is generally called Cherbet or Citronnade Algérienne and it usually served during Ramadan in Algeria.
Ingredients
[edit | edit source]- 5–6 lemons
- 3 tbsp milk
- 4 tbsp orange blossom water
- 150 g white granulated sugar
- 1.5 L water
- Ice cubes (optional)
- Mint (optional)
- Slices of lemon (optional)
Procedure
[edit | edit source]- Zest one lemon, stop before reaching the white part of the lemon and reserve for later.
- Slice one lemon and reserve for later.
- Press the rest of the lemons to obtain lemon juice and reserve for later.
- Pour half a litre of water into a saucepan, add the lemon slices and sugar, and let it boil on medium heat. Turn off the heat and let it cool down completely.
- In a jug, add water, lemon zest, orange blossom water, milk, and lemon juice. Mix well.
- Add your mixture into a clean bottle, add the remaining water and cooled down lemon juice from the saucepan. Close the bottle and shake well.
- Transfer the drink to a pitcher, and let it cool in the fridge.
