Ingredients

- ¼ cup (60 ml) water
- ¼ cup (60 ml) granulated white sugar
- 1 tsp lemon juice (optional)
Procedure
[edit | edit source]- Combine pepper, water, sugar and lemon in a saucepan, and heat slowly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is a light-brown colour.
- Remove from heat and let cool for 1 hour.
Notes, tips, and variations
[edit | edit source]- The lemon juice can be replaced by lemon rind, or lime.
- Makes a good sauce for fresh fruit or fruit with soured cream.
