Common Sauce is a multi-purpose sauce that can be used for a number of meat-based dishes and side vegetables. This recipe is an interpreted method from the original recipe in Henry Hartshorne's the Household Cyclopedia.

  1. Combine veal, ham, onions, parsnips, garlic, and cloves in a large saucepan.
  2. Add broth, wine, and lemon slices.
  3. Simmer over low heat for 15 to 20 minutes, or until reduced.
  4. Sieve the sauce and serve.
