Malabar spinach, also called vine spinach, Indian spinach, climbing spinach, and amunututu, refers to the edible plant Basella alba. It is widely grown in tropical Asia and Africa.

Characteristics

[edit | edit source]

Malabar spinach has dark green leaves that can be ovular or heart-shaped. It has a mild flavor and can be eaten raw or cooked. When cooked, the leaves become somewhat mucilaginous, although to a lesser degree than some greens.
