It's used as an indirect object and after some prepositions. Examples:
Dao sam ti pismo.
Bio im je gospodar.
Bila je prekrasna, slična zvijezdama na nebu.
Singular

ending: -u
Examples:
stol -> stolu
broj -> broju
nebo -> nebu
djete -> djetetu
2) second or e-declination
ending: -i
žena -> ženi
ptica -> ptici
vođa -> vođi
Sibilarization (k,g,h->c,z,s/_i)
ruka -> ruci
noga -> nozi
svrha -> svrsi
Exceptions (sibilarization doesn't have):
- most nouns ending on one consonant: kuka, liga, psiha, šljuka, pjega (kiki, ligi, psihi, šljuki, pjegi)
- hypocoristics: baki, diki, koki, seki, striki
- nouns denoting female person with ending -ka: Eskimki, ilirki, gimnazijalki, licejki, tramvajki
- nouns on -cka, -čka, -ćka: kocki, packi, mački, ljuljački, praćki, srećki
- some nouns on -ska, -zga: arabeski, maski, mazgi
- disyllabic words on -tka: lutki, patki, tvrtki (exception: bitci/bitki)
- nouns with two consonant if the last one is -g: sfingi, algi, mazgi, tajgi, štangi
- nouns on -h are more common without sibilarization: juhi, muhi, buhi
- nouns with three syllable and polysyllable on -ka can have both forms: pripovjeci/pripovijetki, zagoneci/zagonetki
- nouns on -sk, -šk can have both forms: vojski/vojsci, greški/grešci
- names and surnames of people: Anki, Dubravki; Vargi, Glihi
- geographical names:
- names that look like general nouns (Krki, Meki)
- names that looks like general nouns (Rijeci {rijeka means river, and Rijeka is city}) {some can have both: Aljaski/Aljasci, Gradiški/Gradišci, Liki/lici
3) third or i-declination
ending: -i
ljubav -> ljubavi
noć -> noći
Plural
