Drugs:Fact and Fiction/Caffeine
Appearance
Caffeine occurs naturally in the seeds and leaves of many plants, including coffee and tea. It is often added to sodas and energy drinks. It is also sold as a non-prescription drug to aid wakefulness. Effects include loss of fatigue, loss of appetite, mild euphoria, and increased urination.
Sensitivity to caffeine varies depending on the individual.
While caffeine is addictive, withdrawal symptoms are usually mild, and pass after a few days. Symptoms of withdrawal include headaches, fatigue, loss of concentration, and, in some cases, mild depression.
