Jacobaea
[edit | edit source]
Jacobaea vulgaris
Jacobaea was formerly treated as a subgenus of Senecio but recently (re-)segregated to better reflect the current phylogenetic understanding. Jacobaea vulgaris (tansy ragwort) rarely if ever naturalizes in in New York State but would be considered highly invasive if it is found to do so.[1]

Antennaria
[edit | edit source]
The New York pussytoes (Antennaria) species can be separated into two groups:
  • the Antennaria neglecta/howellii group with mostly a single vein in each basal leaf and
  • the Antennaria plantaginifolia/parlinii group with 3 to 5 (or as many as 7) veins per basal leaf.[1]

Antennaria neglecta/howellii group
[edit | edit source]
Antennaria neglecta
This group corresponds to Flora of North America Group 5, which has mostly a single vein in each basal leaf.[1]

Antennaria neglecta is a sexual diploid ancestor of the Antennaria howellii complex.
