Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe/Chapter 1
Appearance
Chapter 1
A newspaper article, dated June 12, 1929, in The Weems Weekly announces the opening of the Whistle Stop Cafe. The cafe is located next to the post office and is run by Idgie Threadgoode and Ruth Jamison. Sipsey and Onzell, two colored women, are doing the cooking, so customers won't have to worry about being poisoned by Idgie. The breakfast and lunch menus are listed with prices. Dot Weems, the writer of the article, tells her readers that her husband, Wilbur, ate there and he told Dot he may never eat at home again. Dot tells readers she wishes this were true.
