Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe/Chapter 53
This chapter takes place in Valdosta, Georgia on September 30, 1924. Frank Bennett adored his mother and hated his father. This love changed to hate when he came home from school one day to find his mother making love to her brother in law. That memory haunts him for the rest of his life. Frank is a vain man. He gets what he wants, and he wants Ruth. He has been with many loose women. One woman claimed her daughter was his child, but after he beat her up, she never made the claim again. He liked Ruth because she was untouched. Everyone in town thought he was a good guy. The first to see the evil within was an old man at the bar. Frank told him he'd buy the man a drink if he could guess which eye was glass. The old man guesses the left, as it was the only one that had even a glimmer of human compassion.
