Pottery featuring Achilles.

Achilles was one of the best warriors "If not the best" of all time. His mother was a Nereid, or sea nymph. Shortly after he was born his mother dipped him into the river Styx, which made him invulnerable to all that went against him, but when he was dipped into the river his left heel was not submerged, leaving him with one weak spot. He went on to fight in the Trojan War, where he distinguished himself as the greatest warrior of both sides, defeating the Trojan hero, Hector, the oldest son of the king. In revenge, the prince's brother, Paris, threw a spear at him from the city wall, which struck him in the heel and killed him.
