Gyakuten Kenji 2/Episode 3: The Inherited Turnabout/Beginning, Part 2
You arrive in Delicia's room a little while later. It's laid out similarly to Master's room, with a stream on the right side, and a temperature control panel on the left wall - but this room feels much warmer. The cream-covered castle seems to be Delicia's entry for the contest. The woman herself shows up soon after. She doesn't look like the sort to use "any means" to win. Just as you prepare to begin investigating... Objection! That voice... It's Manfred von Karma, who emerges from the candy castle to insult you, and declares that you exist only to be crushed by him. Strangely, though, he decides to allow you to investigate, and leaves for Gustavia's room... What is he planning?
Investigation: Contest Venue - Delicia's Room / 捜査 ~コンテスト会場・デリシーの部屋~
[edit | edit source]First, examine the castle. Examine the inside. Badd decides to take a closer look, and finds that the cream is melting. You receive the Fragile desserts logic (くずれやすいお菓子 Kuzure yasui okashi). Examine the blue rolls of cloth, then the rocks. There are hexagonal-shaped stands underneath the rocks. You receive the Pedestal of rock logic (岩の台座 Iwa no daiza). Next, examine the hexagonal shapes on the top of the pillars to get the Hexagonal recess logic (6角形のくぼみ Rokkakugata no kubomi). Use Logic to connect this to the Pedestal of rock (岩の台座). It looks like the rocks were meant to be placed on the pillars. Examine the blue rolls of cloth again. You question yourself as to what they are doing inside the castle. Delicia won't tell you what they're really for, though - because von Karma ordered her to keep quiet. She does, however, explain that the rocks are actually rock salt lamps, and offers to show you how she uses the cloth and lamps for "therapy". She has everything put together, and lights up the castle, creating a beautiful scene. One of the "four fairies" is missing something, though, and the rock salt lamps appear to be broken.
Examine the castle again. Examine the left rock. There's a bloodstain on it. You receive the Bloodstained rock salt lamp logic (血痕のついた岩塩ランプ Kekkon no tsuita gan'en ranpu). Connect this to Beaten to death (殴り殺された). Was this lamp the murder weapon? The bloodstain belonged to the victim, so it's very likely. The Rock Salt Lamp (凶器の岩塩ランプ kyōki no gan'en ranpu) is added to the Court Record. Gregory had also noticed a contradiction regarding the lamps and cloths... Point at either of the lamps or cloths, and deduce from the Contest Rules (コンテストのルール) that, since the rock salt lamps and cloths are not made from desserts, Delicia should not have been allowed to use them. You receive the Delicia broke the rules logic (デリシーのルール違反 Derishī no rūru ihan).
Examine the fairy on the right side of the back wall. This one is missing its fluorescent cloth. Delicia says that its cloth and the accompanying machine, known as a "rainbow light device", have disappeared. Information on the Fluorescent Cloth (光る布 hikaru nuno) is added to the Court Record. Go to the other side of the room, and examine the temperature control panel in the back left corner. The room's temperature is set to 68°F (20°C) - far higher than the 50°F (10°C) Gustavia said is recommended for cream. You receive the High room temperature logic (室温が高い Shitsuon ga takai). Connect this to Fragile desserts (くずれやすいお菓子). The desserts seem to be melting because of the high temperature. Gregory also recalls how, when Badd examined the doorknob of the castle, it didn't break. The doorknob also turns out to be inedible, as does the entire castle - it's just a plastic mould covered in cream. The Fake desserts (ニセモノのお菓子 Nisemono no okashi) are added to your Logic. Connect this to Delicia broke the rules (デリシーのルール違反). You're left wondering what Delicia's true goal is, while the Fake Desserts (ニセモノのお菓子 nisemono no okashi) are added to the Court Record.
You need to see what Delicia has to say for herself. Talk to her:
- During the contest (コンテスト中の行動 Kontesuto-chū no kōdō): The contest began at around 10 a.m., and she was working in her room the entire time. At 1:30 p.m., she left for afternoon tea. Just three people were there: Master, Kate, and Delicia. Gregory asks if she had entered any other rooms during the contest, and mentions her fingerprints being found at the crime scene. She admits to having been in Master's room.
- The honest truth (本当のこと Hontō no koto): Delicia went to Master's room to study his desserts. This research involved tasting the desserts, which resulted in her leaving her prints behind. She also ate part of the ship's stand, resulting in it breaking. You receive the Desserts study logic (お菓子の研究 Okashi no kenkyū).
- The room temperature (室温について Shitsuon ni tsuite): Delicia was unaware of the correct temperature for maintaining fresh cream. You receive the Knowledge was lacking logic (知識が足りない Chishiki ga tarinai).
Use your Logic to connect the Desserts study (お菓子の研究) to Knowledge was lacking (知識が足りない). Delicia's actions aren't like those of someone hoping to become the "world's greatest pastry chef". Is Delicia even a real pastry chef? It's possible she didn't go to Master's room just to "study his desserts". She's hiding something from you... Von Karma must have noticed the rock salt lamp while he was here, so why did he not take Delicia in for questioning? You decide to confront him on this matter.
Von Karma's Argument: About the Murder Weapon / 狩魔の推理 ~凶器について~
[edit | edit source]- In order to pin the crime on Delicia, Master used the rock salt lamp to kill the victim.
- He then deposited the murder weapon in Delicia's room.
- If he had left the murder weapon at the crime scene, Master would have been the one suspected.
- He couldn't move the body, but it was easy to move the murder weapon.
- Ergo, there would be no evidence pointing to a specific culprit at the crime scene.
Rebuttal: About the Murder Weapon / 追求 ~凶器について~
[edit | edit source]Present the Crime Scene Notes (現場の所見メモ) or the Fluorescent Cloth (光る布) on the fifth statement. Von Karma doesn't know that the cloth lights up when connected to Delicia's machines. This should give him enough reason to suspect Delicia. However, this turns out to be exactly what von Karma planned to make you think. In fact, the cloth and rock salt lamp were already in Master's room, as he had confiscated them. As you thought, von Karma told Delicia to keep quiet about this. You don't have enough information to contest von Karma's logic, so von Karma tries to force you to leave... Badd disagrees with him, however, and says that he still has doubts about one piece of evidence. When asked which one, present the Frame Fingermarks (額縁の指のアト). The fingermarks were made by someone wearing gloves, and if these were left by the killer, it's likely that they also didn't leave any fingerprints on the murder weapon. You still have doubts about Delicia, too - why was she here, if she can't make desserts? Von Karma wants proof of how you know this. Present the Fake Desserts (ニセモノのお菓子).
Delicia is forced to finally tell the truth. In reality, she is not a pastry chef, but a pharmacist. She entered the contest to get a chance to eat some of Master's world-famous desserts. She denies making the fingermarks on the frame, though, as she didn't wear gloves. She also tried some of Dover's desserts, and mentions that the room was empty at the time. However, the first part she tried was salty, so she ate a different part of the dessert. Von Karma goes to the victim's room to investigate, but only allows you to follow him, and denies you investigative rights. Inside, however, the two lawyers are stunned to find that Dover's desserts have melted completely. Further investigation would be required...
