A rocks is an aggregate of minerals. Minerals are chemical compounds have different weight, colour and hardness, and these determine the properties of the rocks formed.

In this chapter, we will discuss the three rock types and their formation in detail. We will also take a look at weathering and mass movement. For the lowdown on other parts of the rock cycle, such as internal processes, erosion, transport and deposition, see M1 and M2.
