The statement proceeds:- Several Bills considered in part last session will be revived by resolution, and, where necessary new amendments will be added. Among other matters engaging the serious attention of Ministers, and upon which it is intended at a later date to make proposals of an important character, that of Defence (29) . is specially deserving of reconsideration, particularly in view of recent developments. [edit | edit source]Hi Sam, You are correct - the URLs in RecordSearch are session-specific. It is possible to create a permalink to items using the following URL template: http://www.naa.gov.au/go.aspx?i=[ItemBarcodeNumber] where [ItemBarcodeNumber] is the item's barcode number. Examples: http://www.naa.gov.au/go.aspx?i=12345 http://www.naa.gov.au/go.aspx?i=1799120
You can also link to a specific page in a digitised item using: http://www.naa.gov.au/go.aspx?i=[ItemBarcode]&f=[FolioNumber] where [ItemBarcode] is the item barcode number and [FolioNumber] is the folio number. Examples: http://www.naa.gov.au/go.aspx?i=1799120&f=12 http://www.naa.gov.au/go.aspx?i=8114271&f=1

Coastal Radio Service. Items of Interest. . . . Wireless concerts are broadcasted by Amalgamated Wireless, Melbourne, every Monday night at 8 p.m., under the direction of Mr. S. M. Newman. A 1/2 K.W. Marconi valve transmitter is installed at Mr. Newman's residence at Canterbury; the aerial current is usually about 3.5 amps on 950 metres. The results obtained are very gratifying, as the concerts have been received at the majority of the coast stations and ships at sea, and are greatly appreciated by the local amateurs.[37]

LONELY GOATHERD. Serving the Lights (Walkabout, August) brought back memories of boyhood years spent at several “outside” lighthouses. Memories of scrambling ashore from a workboat, removing the water pipes between the roof and the fresh water tanks when gales threw spray from the ocean over the house tops, rounding up the milking goats, and being in bed with whooping cough when the nearest doctor was miles away across the turbulent ocean, have tumbled again through my mind. Before Cape York, the lighthouse tender about which the article tells, there was the Lady Loch, later used as a barge on the Brisbane River. Before Lady Loch, there was the Despatch, which was later wrecked at the mouth of Lakes Entrance in Gippsland, Victoria. F. W. STEVENS, Glen Iris, Vic.[38]

[edit | edit source]Benson Thesis
[edit | edit source]F. W. STEVENS: F. W. Stevens was appointed as Chief Engineer at 4QG in 1925. His interest in wireless began in 1901, when he was three years old. He recalled an incident when the Duke of York (later King George V) visited Australia. Stevens lived at the Point Lonsdale Lighthouse, Port Phillip Heads. Wishing to welcome the visitors in a novel way, "a small set of apparatus was erected at the Signal Station at Point Lonsdale ... and an aerial was swung from the flag pole ... it was not until the steamer's smoke was dimly visible in the distance that communication was established between ship and shore." Ross - Radio Broadcast Technology
[edit | edit source]4PG features briefly in a schedule of Brisbane amateur broadcasters in 1930 in Jack Ross' definitive "Radio Broadcast Technology"
Progress in experimental broadcasting by the Amateurs was dramatic. The number of transmitters operating in the 200 metre band increased rapidly and to minimise interference problems, leading Amateurs transmitted on a co-operative roster basis. . . . In Brisbane during mid 1930, the following Amateur broadcasters were active:
- Tom Starkie, Toombul, (4NW), 249.9 metres, nightly and weekends.
- Pat Golden, Wynnum, (4PG), 245.8 metres, weekends.
- Wooloowin Radio Club, (4WN), 241.8 metres, Thursday and Sunday.
- Cec Morris, Rosalie, (4LW), 238 metres, nightly and weekends.
- George Hams, Northgate, (4GW), 234.2 metres, nightly.
- Harold Walsh, Hamilton, (4HW), 230.6 metres, nightly and weekends.
- Bob Browne, Toowong, (4RE), 227.1 metres, nightly and weekends.
- G Oxlade, Newmarket, (4GO), 223.7 metres, nightly and weekends.
- Bruce Munro, Hawthorne, (4AL), 220.4 metres, nightly.
- Frank Nolan, Spring Hill, (4JU) 217.3 metres, weekends.
- Cliff Gold, Hill End, (4CG), 214.2 metres, weekends.
- Bill Young, West End, (4WA) 202.6 metres, nightly.[43]
