Dennis Brain was born into an already-famous horn-playing family in 1921. His father, Aubrey, his uncle, Alfred Jr., and his grandfather, Alfred Sr. all played professionally. Brain began his career by playing second to his father. For a time after WWII, Brain led the horn sections in the Philharmonia and Royal Philharmonic. Brain made several solo recordings, including the Strauss and Mozart horn concertos.

Brain died in a car accident while returning to London from the Edinburgh Festival. It is unfortunate that the world lost a great horn player at such a young age. [1]
