Explanatory Notes

General

[edit | edit source]

Irish personal pronouns work much the same way as they do in English, with a few exceptions:

  • Irish has no neutral pronoun equivalent to the English "it"; use the pronoun appropriate to the gender of the noun instead
  • Unlike most dialects of English, Irish makes a distinction between the second person singular and second person plural
  • Irish has a separate emphatic form used in certain situations
