Israel and the Palestinian Territories/History: Nabataeans
Appearance
At the same time Hasmoneans and Herodians were ruling Judaea, Nabataea, which controlled the modern-day Jordan, southernmost of Syria and Negev Desert, was a powerful state in its own right, and in constant conflict with the Judaean powers. Founded by Nabataeans(ạl-ạ̉nbạṭ), a Northern Arab tribe, Nabataea prospered due to the trade routes passing through its domains. It reached its peak under Aretas III(ḥāritẖaẗu ạltẖãạlitẖi), and later became a vassal of the Romans. It was later annexed into the Empire under Trajan as the Province of Arabia Petraea.
