Jeep Liberty/Electrical/ESP
Jeep Libertys manufactured in 2006 and later come standard with ESP, or Electronic Stability Program. Among other things, ESP applies selective breaking to prevent wheel spin. This traction portion of the ESP has an effect similar to that of an LSD. So it doesn't interfere with off road driving, parts of the ESP system are disabled in 4-Hi and 4-Lo. The system relies heavily on the ABS wheel speed sensors to determine if a wheel is slipping. ESP may interfere with LSDs and lockers because it performs many of the same functions that they do. It should be noted that when ESP was introduced in 2006 the factory LSD option was dropped, whether this was because ESP defeats the purpose of a LSD or because it's incompatible with a LSD is not yet known.
