Mario Adventure/Mario Adventure 2

From Wikibooks, open books for an open world

Mario Adventure 2 is the sequel to the greatly acclaimed hack, Mario Adventure. Mario Adventure 2 boasts twice the size of a quest, many new items, many new enemies, great improvements on existing features and the an entire quest made just for Luigi.

Mario Adventure 2 was created from "scratch", using a brand new ROM as a base, rather than hacking the existing Mario Adventure. Gone is the weather effects, day/night effects, constant mini-boss battling and the old key system.

New is the ability to choose a character from the start, a new Central Hub system, keys work much differently, the item shop has been improved to actually buy differently priced items, a few mini-games, alterations to Boom-Boom and much much more.

A quick run down of features follows below:

A new world hub...

Rather than start with 7 worlds to play through, you must start at world 1. After completing that, you will be given an open path to choose different worlds. It is possible to complete the game in a minimum of 5 worlds, but maybe completing them all will yield something..

Brothers unite...

This hack allows you to choose either Mario or Luigi from the start of the game. However, their differences are not just a simple palette swap. Luigi has his own sprites set, his own abilities, items and own set of 8 worlds to complete. Luigi's quest is generally easier, where as Mario is generally harder.

Mario vs Luigi

Mario retains the item storage from Mario Adventure. Only, it has been refined in this. Pressing select "throws" the item from Mario, so he has to catch it. Luigi has the ability to use certain items on the map screen that will be carried into the level and used later. He can carry such items as a P-Switch, Star and Stop watch. Luigi also retains his altered control and can throw 5 projectiles at once (fireballs or boomerangs).

New powerups!

Unlike Mario Adventure, the sequel has real new power ups. Among these are the Mouser Suit, a suit that lets you throw Bob-ombs, the Panda Suit, a suit that lets you stick to the ceiling and walk across it, and finally the Boomerang suit, lets you throw boomerangs and makes you completely fireproof. It's rumored there there are a couple of other power-ups not normally attainable in the game...

New items!

Mario Adventure 2 has quite a few new map items to use. Among these are the Clear Level card (Luigi equipped), Item Bag (Luigi equipped), Starman (Luigi equipped), P-switch (Luigi equipped), key, Mega-Starman (Mario Only), 1 Up (only way to obtain them), Safety Wings (Luigi equipped), POW (Luigi equipped), Ice Block Generator (Luigi equipped), and top Watch (Luigi equipped).

New Enemies!

This adventure gives a plethora of new enemies to watch out for. Among those are the Chomper Cheep, Ninji, Fire Snifit, Fire Goomba, Fire Blooper, Giant Ghost Snifit, Giant Muncher, Giant Buzzy Beetle, Giant Spiny, Peek-a-Boo Cheep, and alterations to existing enemies, including the now Piranha Fire Plant and Inflammable Fire Brothers.
