Obscuro is a spell used to put a blindfold on the caster, that cannot be taken off without magical means. Hermione uses it on Phineas Nigellus Black's portrait in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Hermione does this because she knows that Professor Snape has access to his portrait, so she wants to get him to slip information about Hogwarts without revealing their location. This event suggests that spells can be used on portraits.
Because Obscuro is a basic spell, it can likely be lifted by Finite Incantatem.
