Basics of Voice-Leading

Voice leading primarily consists of four distinct voices on two staves (the treble and bass staves), which encompass the entire musical scale. The four voices are:

  • Soprano: This is the highest voice, sung by females.
  • Alto: The next highest voice, sung by females.
  • Tenor: Sung by males.
  • Bass: The lowest voice, sung by males.
