Nepali/Greetings

From Wikibooks, open books for an open world

This course welcomes you. And in next few pages you will be learning some nepalese words. So it would be Namaste so our first word :

Namaste = नमस्ते "(na-mas-tey)" or, you can also use Namaskar which is common as well in Nepal. Namaskar =नमस्कार "(na-mas-kar)" . So if you are seeing someone whom you haven't seen from a long time you may want to ask how they are. You can say [San-tsa-i hu-nun-ts'ha=सन्चै हुनुहुन्छ ? or[Aa-ra-mai hu-nun-ts'ha] आरामै हुनुहुन्छ ? Both are used to ask thethe query ""Are you fine?""

In Nepali you can say Good Morning or Good Afternoon or Good Night accordingly. But , sometimes it is that your accent be difficult for people to understand. Otherwise it is OK. Generally not used or may be used by some people, you can say (Suu-bha pra-bhat=शुभ प्रभात ) for morning ; (su-bha sa-n-dhyaa= शुभ सन्ध्या) for good afternoon and (suu bha RaatRee= शुभ रात्री) for good night.

(As you see Pra-bhat=(प्रभात) can be boys' name and Sa-n-dhyaa=सन्ध्या has become common name for girls')
