Nineteen Eighty-Four/Part 1/Chapter 4

In this chapter we see an average day at the Records Department of the Ministry of Truth (Minitrue) where Winston works. Winston is one of many Outer Party members whose job is to "rectify" history. As Winston puts it, "[It] was not even forgery. It was merely the substitution of one piece of nonsense for another." One of Winston's current jobs was to edit out references in an old newspaper to a man known as Withers, as he was now an "unperson" (dead).
