Writing Numbers

[edit | edit source]

Numbers in Niw englisc are written together, as in modern German. For example:

  • 256 = twahundsixandfeiftiȝ

The exception here is when writing basic numbers, such as two hundred, in which case the numbers are most often written separately, and 'hundred' is more often written as 'hund' in compounds:

  • 200 = twa hund
  • 500 = feif hund
  • 534 = feifhundfierandþrittiȝ

Fractions

[edit | edit source]

Fractions are written using the ordinals with an -el suffix, as in German.

  • 2/3 = tweȝn þriddel
  • 8/13 = eaht þrietienþel
