Passover Haggadah/Kiddush

From Wikibooks, open books for an open world

Kadeish is Hebrew Imperative for Kiddush. This Kiddush is a special one for Passover, it refers to matzot and the Exodus from Egypt. Acting in a way that shows freedom and majesty, most Jews have the custom of filling each other's cups at the Seder table. The Kiddush is normally said by the father of the house.

The first cup is known as the cup of Sanctification, taken from the first "I Will" of Exodus 6:6-7: "Wherefore say unto the children of Israel: I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians" (JPS)

(Fill your cups)

Prayer:

 Baruch atah Adonai Elohaynu melech ha-olam bo-ray p'ree ha-ga-fen
Blessed art Thou, LORD our God, King of the universe, who creates the fruit of the vine.

(Drink the 1st cup).
