  • Approximately 75% of primary tumors of the heart are benign
    • Atrial myxoma (about 50%)
    • Lipoma (about 10%)
    • Papillary fibroelastoma (about 10%)
    • Rhabdomyoma (about 10%)
    • Fibroma (about 10%)
    • Hemangioma
    • Teratoma
    • Cystic atrioventricular node tumor
  • Malignant primary tumors constitute the remaining 25% of cardiac neoplasms
    • Primary malignancies of the myocardium: sarcoma, malignant fibrous histiocytoma, angiosarcoma, fibrosarcoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, lymphoma, melanoma, and carcinoma
