Spain at the Beginning of 21st Century/Spain by autonomous communities

From Wikibooks, open books for an open world

Below are sections for each of the different Spanish autonomous communities, in which their respective populations are shown, and those of their provinces, according to the Statistical Yearbook of Spain, in its 2000 edition.

The beginning of the 21st century coincides approximately with the first digital edition of the National Topographic Map of Spain at a scale of 1:50,000, also known as MTN50 (its publication took place between 1999 and 2011, with a special sheet for Madrid and its surroundings published in 2012). The sheets corresponding to the main cities are shown, for which their population is indicated (always according to the 2000 edition of the Statistical Yearbook of Spain[1]), following the following criteria:

  • All 50 provincial capitals.
  • The capitals of autonomous communities that are not also the capital of a province (Mérida and Santiago de Compostela).
  • The 2 autonomous cities (Ceuta and Melilla).
  • Cities with a greater population than the capital of their province: Gijón, Jerez de la Frontera, Talavera de la Reina and Vigo.
  • The main cities that belong to the metropolitan areas of Madrid and Barcelona.
  • Other cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants, which do not fall into any of the previous groups: Algeciras, Cartagena, Elche, Marbella and San Cristóbal de la Laguna.
