Dialogue 5 Anna's eyes
[edit | edit source]1 | MAX | Good morning, Anna! |
2 | ANNA | Good morning. Oh! What are you doing here, so early? You must have got up very early today! |
3 | MAX | Yes, I did. I’m coming with you today. Wecan go by bus together. What do you think?! |
4 | ANNA | Well look, the bus is here. |
5 | MAX | A ticket to the city centre, please. |
6 | BUS DRIVER | One pound twenty five, please. |
7 | MAX | Here you are. |
8 | BUS DRIVER | A 20 pound note! You can't pay with big notes on the bus. |
9 | MAX | Oh, I am sorry, I have no smaller ones. |
10 | ANNA | Go ahead. I’ll pay with my card. |
11 | MAX | Oh my God, thank you Anna. How embarrassing!. I'm sorry. Thank you. |
12 | ANNA | You’re welcome. It’s OK. |
13 | MAX | You have such beautiful grey eyes!. I'm speechless. |
14 | ANNA | I’ve often been told that. I’m not from here, that’s why I have these eyes. |
15 | MAX | Oh, aren't you from here? Where are you from? |
16 | ANNA | I’m from Romania and these eyes are Romanian too. |
17 | MAX | Romania, what a beautiful country, I went on holiday there last year. I liked it a lot. Especially the mountains and the sea. And the people were very nice. Let me tell you something, you speak English very well. |
18 | ANNA | Thank you. I took a course as soon as I got to London. At first, it was very hard: a new language, a new job, a new life. I come from a very small seaside village. It’s so small that it’s impossible not to meet your family when you go out. I miss my country very much, my village, my people. I would like to go back home. |
19 | MAX | So why did you come? Don’t you like London? Everybody says it’s a great city!] |
20 | ANNA | London is a very nice city, but almost all my family still live in Romania. I miss them a lot, my parents, my cousins, my friends...It’s difficult to explain. |
21 | MAX | So... why did you come to London then? |
22 | ANNA | I had been looking for a job in Romania for 2 years. I didn’t find anything. Besides, at that time salaries were very low. Unemployment was high. There wasn’t anything to do. So, I decided to come to London. I have a brother here. |
23 | MAX | I see. Have you been in London for a long time? |
24 | ANNA | Yes, I have. I came to London to work 5 years ago. |
25 | ANNA | Look, here we are. Our stop. |
26 | MAX | Can we meet for lunch? |
27 | ANNA | I’m afraid I can’t. I finish at two and I must leave quickly. |
28 | MAX | Oh well. What about breakfast? |
29 | ANNA | I don’t stop for breakfast. I work all morning without breaks. |
30 | MAX | What do you mean you don’t stop for breakfast? Where in the bank do you work? |
31 | ANNA | We’ll talk some other day I have to go now. I don’t want to be late. |

Max was born in Castleton, a mountain village. When he started University, he and some of his village mates rented a flat. He had been sharing a flat for six years. When he started to work, he bought his own flat. Max doesn’t like the city centre because it’s very noisy. Max wears very smart clothes, he even wears a tie. |
Anna is from Romania. She was born in Romania in a seaside village, but now she lives in Barcelona. She came to Barcelona because she couldn’t find a job in Romania. She likes Barcelona, but she would like to go back to her country. She lives in a small flat far from the city centre, with her son and her husband. Anna never has enough money to buy clothes. She usually wears a simple dress. |

Title: Don't Worry, Be Happy
Link: Song
Lyrics: Interesting words are highlighted with bold letters
Here's a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don't worry, be happy
In every life we have some trouble
When you worry you make it double
Don't worry, be happy
Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Don't worry)
Ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Be happy)
Ooh oo-ooh oo-ooh
(Don't worry, be happy)
Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Don't worry)
Ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Be happy)
Ooh oo-ooh oo-ooh
(Don't worry, be happy)
Ain't got no place to lay your head
Somebody came and took your bed
Don't worry, be happy
The landlord say your rent is late
He may have to litigate
Don't worry, be happy
(Look at me I'm happy)
Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Don't worry)
Ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Be Happy)
Ooh oo-ooh oo-ooh
Here I give you my phone number
When you worry call me, I make you happy
Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Don't worry)
Ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Be happy)
Ooh oo-ooh oo-ooh
Ain't got no cash, ain't got no style
Ain't got no gal[1] to make you smile
But don't worry, be happy
'Cause when you worry your face will frown
And that will bring everybody down
So don't worry, be happy
Don't worry, be happy now
Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Don't worry)
Ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Be happy)
Ooh oo-ooh oo-ooh
Don't worry, be happy
Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Don't worry)
Ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Be happy)
Ooh oo-ooh oo-ooh
Don't worry, be happy
Now there, is this song I wrote
I hope you learned it note for note
Like good little children
Don't worry, be happy
Listen to what I say
In your life expect some trouble
When you worry you make it double
Don't worry, be happy, be happy now
Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Don't worry)
Ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Be happy)
Ooh oo-ooh oo-ooh
Don't worry, be happy
Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Don't worry)
Ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Be happy)
Ooh oo-ooh oo-ooh
Don't worry, be happy
Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Don't worry)
Ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Don't worry, don't worry, don't do it, be happy)
Ooh oo-ooh oo-ooh
(Put a smile on your face, don't bring everybody down)
Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Don't worry)
Ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(It will soon pass, whatever it is)
Ooh oo-ooh oo-ooh
Don't worry, be happy
Ooh oo-ooh oo-ooh
I'm not worried, I'm happy
