Template:ISP
This IP address, (IP address or hostname appears here), is registered to {{{1}}}, an Internet service provider through which numerous individual users may connect to the Internet via proxy. This IP address may be reassigned to a different person when the current user disconnects.
For this reason, a message intended for one person may be received by another. If you are editing from this address and are frustrated by irrelevant messages, you can avoid them by creating an account for yourself. In some cases, you may temporarily be unable to create an account due to efforts to deal with vandalism, in which case, please see here.
If you are autoblocked repeatedly, we encourage you to contact your Internet service provider or IT department and ask them to contact Wikimedia's XFF project about enabling X-Forwarded-For HTTP headers on their proxy servers so that our editing blocks will affect only the intended user.
Caution should be used when blocking this IP or reverting its contributions without checking
Note: In the event of vandalism from this address, abuse reports may be sent to your network administrator for further investigation. |
Usage
[edit source]{{ISP|ISP name|host=Host Server}} ISP name is mandatory, host= name is optional.
Note: This page should not be substituted, but transcluded.
Further information
[edit source]Once an IP has been warned/blocked a few times, it is usually a good idea to add a header to the IP's talkpage, which identifies the WHOIS information. This info can be obtained by clicking on the "WHOIS" link in the talkpage footer, and reviewing the related information. Sometimes a domain may be identified at the top of the listing, or there may be other information in the fields labeled OrgName and (if available) CustName. Try to choose whatever seems to be the most specific information.
For example, if the OrgName is "AT&T Services", the CustName is "HumboldtCounty.gov", and the domain at the top is "mail.appletreeschools.com", then "Appletreeschools.com" is the most specific information.
Whichever name you find, will then probably fall into one of the following categories:

[edit source]- For specific examples on any of the above, click on the template name, and then from the template page click on "What links here" in the lefthand toolbox to get a list of pages which use that template
- Where possible, check to see if the organization has a Wikipedia article about it, and if so, link to it.
- Some ISPs may have their own templates, such as {{SingNet}}.
