[edit | edit source]The effects of a large prison system on a society can be quite severe. The resulting separation of families, recidivism, and other factors often lead to severely negative societal outcomes.
Economic
[edit | edit source]Large prison systems, especially those with significant privatized elements, often leads to a prison industry. As with any industry, this leads to a mixed bag of issues relating to political power, labor rights, and tax policy.
