ABOUT ME: My name is Angelia Ferguson, I am 32 Years old. I live in Bluefield, Virginia with my husband of nine years and our two beautiful children. Alyssa is almost 5 and Mason is almost 3. They have the same birthday July 24 just 2 years apart!! Can you believe that!!

I graduated from a very small high school and went to college so confused about what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Business in 1999. Through college I worked at a local bank, and then moved on to a medical equipment supply company where I worked for the next six years. During that time I had our daughter, and was not happy being away from her. The next phase of my life began...I opened up a daycare in my home. This has been my job for the last few years. It is very challenging at times, but it was a good decision for me. This has brought me to where I am today, pursuing a liscensure in PreK-6.

I love spending time with my family, going to the beach, and LOVE chocolate!!

EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY: I believe a great teacher is someone who can relate to each student, everyone comes from different backgrounds and circumstances. Being able to understand where each student has been I think would be very beneficial in how they may learn and interact with other classmates. Every child will learn in a different way...hands on activities are great. A good teacher needs to have a positive learning environment and a lot of patience. Being able to motivate your students I think is also very important. A successful teacher can handle diversity and problems as they arise and keep the classroom engaged with fun but educational activities. Teachers are role models to our children, they see them everyday and help shape their minds. Good teachers are excited to come to work each day not for a paycheck, but for the love of their students.

The classroom environment should be exciting and BOLD. Decorated with bright colors, pictures, and learning aids. There should be a lot of student-teacher interaction, as well as group assisgnments. This allows students to work with their peers and to really interact with classmates. I think technology integration like power point, projectors, and the use of computers can be an empowering tool for students which can improve learning and achievement. Parental involvement is so important for the success of the child. Parents need to be informed about what is going on in the classroom and receive regular feedback about the progress of their child.
