Here is a minor but potentially quite consequential difference between the Nihon Shoki and the Kojiki

In the Kojiki Susanoo no MIkoto kills Ukemochi here

In the Nihon Shoki on the other hand, it is Tsukuyomi, the moon god, who kills Ukemochi

This may indicate the NIhon Shoki having a more positive account of Susanoo-no-Mikoto.

However after this the Kojiki goes into an extensive mythical cycle about the story of Susanoo no MIkoto,

This goes from Susanoo to Okuninushi no mikoto.

Helen Hardacre (or the forgotten religion guy) argues that this may have been an earlier Izumo exclusive myth that was incorporated into the Kojiki as an attempt to include but subordinate Izumo.[citation needed]
