Hi, I'm Michelle. I'm a junior at Old Dominion, studying interdisciplinary studies. I am hoping to teach kindergarten once I graduate. Working at a daycare has definately helped me see that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. Kids are our future, and we should give them the best learning environment possible. I love working with kids and think it's one of the most fulfilling things you can do in life. I love to shop and go to the beach any chance I get.
My educational philosophy: I think that good teachers are so important and critical in children's lives. What makes a good teacher is the influence she makes on his or her students. For example, I think a good influential teacher not only teaches her children academics, but makes it fun and interesting so the students want to be involved and participate fully. A teacher can sit there and teach a student how to read, but if they don't make it fun with things like pictures and fun activities, the students may not grasp the concepts completely. In the end they may know the information to pass a test, but they didn't really fully understand what they were learning. I think that they learning environment should be fun, but educational. Students should have different types of assignments such as computer games, written assignments, and group work. This will work with each child's indivividual learning styles. Also their should be interaction, get the kids involved, ask them questions and have them help with assignments. I will try to incorporate all learning styles that I can into my classroom. When I start teaching, I want to make the classroom fun and educational. The students work and other educational projects will be displayed all over the classroom. These will include a word wall, the alphabet, and so much more. I want to include group work along with the individual assignments so the children can interact with one another and help the other learn. Hopefully I can have plethora of information and different ideas in my classroom to help all of my future students learn in the best way possible.
