About Me
[edit | edit source]Hi! My name is Margaret Ferry, but I prefer to be called Meagan. I was born and raised in Portsmouth, Virginia. My family loves to travel, so I have been to nearly all 50 states! They are very supportive and such a blessing to me. Another love in my life is my boyfriend, Justin Grulke, whom I met at Old Dominion University. We have been going out for over a year, and he is helping teach me how to longboard. Ever since I was four years old, I have enjoyed dancing-anything from ballet to tap, flamenco to jazz, and most recently I have been exploring modern dance. Dance is my passion (or one of my passions I should say), so that is why I teach it to younger kids! I know that working with kids is in my blood (I can say almost literally since my grandmother and mother both teach). This is the reason that I am currently a sophomore at Old Dominion University, majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies PreK-3.
My Teaching Philosophy
[edit | edit source]Teachers are some of the most influential people in a person's life. Each person has memories of great teachers they have had, along with the not so great teachers they have had. The point is, teachers impact our lives, and I want to be one of the positive influences in many childrens' lives. Children are one of the greatest things on this Earth! We can learn from them, be inspired by them, teach them (as well as they teach us) and so much more. They are creative, special, and a true work of heart. That is why I am going into the education field.
Some teachers are strict, and some teachers are push-overs, but I hope to combine many elements in my teaching style. I want to establish respect for my students, as well as, their respect for me. Learning situations are much improved when kids feel like they can interact, rather than just being constantly talked to. Though it will take much patience and time, as well as a loving heart, I cannot wait to start my future working with these beautiful, energetic faces of our future.
