Here is a little about me in a nutshell. My name is Megan. I am from Northern Virginia, or mostly common known as "Nova." I am a sophomore here at ODU which means if all goes according to plan I will graduate in 2011 with my Bachelors Degree and then in 2012 with my Masters. I am in the Pre-K to 3rd grade section of the IDS major. I want to teach first grade. I met and fell in love with the love of my life during my freshmen year and he has supported me throughout every decision regarding my future career.

My philosophy on education...

I've always wanted to be a teacher. I played "school" everyday when I was little. I kept worksheets and even had my very own chalkboard. I would long for the day where I could decorate my own classroom instead of my parent's basement. As a teacher I would help each student and not just pay attention to the ones that were either really accelerated or had a tougher time than most. I'd pay attention to the average students because I always felt as though when I was in school we got overlooked. I believe every student excels in some area and lacks in another. As a first grade teacher I would more or less help to mold my students for the rest of their schooling time. I think it's ridiculous schools devote everything to the standarized tests. I felt as though when I entered middle school the teachers just taught materials from the SOL booklet and revolved their whole curriculum around it. I would have at least two-three of hours of homework almost every night, which left little time for after school activities. If you didn't understand one particular section chances are you would fall behind and it would be almost impossible to catch up. I want the children I teach to be treated the same, not left on their own if they excel and not overlooked if they fall in the middle. I want the ones that have a hard time to learn ways in which it makes the work load easier for them. I want to learn all neccessary steps in order to become a teacher that all the kids rave about!
