Installation of Fedora Core is through the Red Hat installer, anaconda. There are two modes of installation, text and graphical. We will walk you through the graphical mode [is text similar?] in this guide.

Before installing, you should read the release notes for your version to ensure that there are no known issues with your system and components.

At this point, we will assume that you have the ISO images burned to a CD or DVD, and that there is sufficient room hard disk for what you plan to do. If you need help with the As the process involves rebooting (several times), it is highly recommended at this point that you make a printed copy of this page for your reference.

If your BIOS does not support booting from a CD-ROM drive, you will need to make a copy of the boot disk.

While your computer is on, insert Fedora Core disc 1. If you are prompted to "autorun" the disc, choose not to. Then reboot your system.

After the initial boot sequence, the machine will read the CD drive and display a boot: prompt. Simply press [Enter] to begin the installation.

The anaconda text section is from memory, and is probably incorrect.

The anaconda software will start in text mode before switching to graphical, and will ask you if you would like to check the media that you are using to install Fedora Core. It is generally preferred that you choose "OK" and have it examine all four CDs or the DVD.

You will be presented with a list of keyboard layouts before proceeding to the graphical portion of the installation. Select the appropriate layout, and then press Enter.

At this time, the X server will start up and present you with a splash screen, and then an introduction to the installer. Off to the left is a help screen that will give you information on each screen as it is presented to you. Click "Next" at this point.
