How Big is Portland?

Portland is the largest city in the US state of Oregon and the 26th largest city in the United States. Portland has a current population of 2,151,000 people and a total area of 145 square miles.

Our Bridges

Portland's large number of bridges has earned it the nickname "Bridgetown".

  • The St. Johns Bridge is the tallest bridge in Portland. It connects North Portland with Northwest Portland.
  • The Fremont Bridge is part of Interstate 405 and US Route 30. It connects North Portland with downtown Portland.
  • The Broadway Bridge connects the Lloyd District with downtown Portland.
  • The Steel Bridge connects Old Town Chinatown with with the Rose Quarter.
  • The Burnside Bridge carries Burnside Street. The Burnside skate park is located under the east side of the bridge, while the Portland Saturday Market is held under the west side.
  • The Morrison Bridge is the third bridge in approximately the same site to carry that name. It is one of the busiest bridges in Portland.
  • The Hawthorne Bridge is the oldest highway bridge in Portland.
  • The Marquam Bridge is part of Interstate 5 and Interstate 405. It is the busiest bridge in the state of Oregon.
  • Tilikum Crossing comes from the local Chinook tribe's word for "people". Private motor vehicles are not allowed on the bridge. It is reserved for pedestrians, cyclists, and public transit.
  • The Ross Island Bridge carries US Route 26 between Southwest and Southeast Portland.
  • The Sellwood Bridge is the southernmost bridge in Portland. It connects the eastside to Southwest Portland.
