For Learners: Before You Start
[edit | edit source]Meitei script and Latin script belong to different systems. Meitei script is an abugida (pseudo alphabet) system while Latin script is a full alphabet system. For this reason, you must ensure that your Internet browser can accurately render Meitei lettering. If you don't, they will appear as gibberish. Below, you should see the following:
ꯃꯐꯝ ꯑꯁꯤꯇ ꯅꯍꯥꯛꯄꯨ ꯇꯂꯥꯝꯅ ꯑꯣꯛꯆꯂꯤ ꯫
Even if you can't read the letters yet, there's no need to worry about (because this is the first lesson). You should see five words with a few types of accents. If you see question marks or boxes (even if you see a few Meitei letters interspersed), you need to install a font which supports Unicode Meitei or upgrade your browser. If the size of the font makes reading uncomfortable for you, you may wish to adjust your browser or display settings.
