Description
To tame a horse, you need to make sure you are not holding anything in your hand, and press the "interact" button while looking at the horse. This will put you on its back. After a while, it will buck you off, which is when you need to get back onto its back. Eventually, it will stop trying to buck you off, and you will see hearts above its head. This means it is tamed. To gain control of it, you need to equip a saddle on it. To do this, first, find a saddle. Then return to your horse and sit on it. Open your inventory and put the saddle on the horse's saddle slot. Now you can control the horse!
They can also wear horse armour, which will protect it from damage.
Tamed horses do not despawn.
There is a way to guarantee getting a fast horse or a horse that can jump really high. First, find two horses. Then brew a splash potion of swiftness II and splash potion of jump boost II. Then craft a good amount of golden carrots. Splash both potions onto your horses, then breed them with the golden carrots (you can also use golden apples, but they are far more expensive and powerful, so doing so is a big waste). As long as the two parent horses are both effected by the potions, the child will get the speed and jump boost permamently. Then if you breed the two original parents together again (while under the effects of a new splash potion), you get another fast baby. Then you can breed the two childeren (with the same technique with the splash potions) then you can repeat the process over and over forever. Or as many times as you have patience with. Remember that those babies can get so fast that opening a gate for a second would allow them to try to escape, and if they do (and they will), you might find them half way up a mountin before you can say "no, get back here!". There seems to not be a limit. After only 5 generations (starting with one of the fastest horses you can find naturally), you can create a horse that could beat any mob in a race, exept the Ender Dragon.
