Wither skeletons are a variant of skeleton. They are found in the Nether, most commonly in Fortresses.

Undead
This mob is undead, and takes additional damage from weapons with the smite enchantment. This mob is healed by potions of harming and damaged by potions of healing.
Immunity: Fire
This mob cannot take damage from lava, fire or magma blocks, and cannot be set on fire by lava, fire or the fire aspect enchantment.

Description
They are extremely dangerous when with even just one other, and should be avoided if possible.
They inflict the wither debuff, which is similar to poison, but works slower. However, wither can kill you, poison cannot.
On Bedrock edition, the Wither spawns 3 wither skeletons when it gets to half health.
Strategies
They are three blocks tall, so use that height against them! Place blocks on the ceiling of corridor entrances in Nether Fortresses so that it's 2 blocks high instead of 3. You can now kill it from the other side, and it will be quite helpless.
