Inside the Deku Tree

You can get into the Great Deku Tree after you obtain the Kokiri Sword and have bought the Deku Shield.

Ascend to the Slingshot

[edit | edit source]

The first Gold Skulltula can be obtained by rolling into the crate next to the chest that held the Dungeon Map

Walk into the first room. Turn to the left, there should be a ladder (do not use the vines, there's a Skultulla crawling on them). Jump across the log (be wary of the Keese) and in front of you there should be a large chest and a Gohma egg. dispatch the egg before it hatches (or kill the larvae with two sword strikes). There is also another egg up above you that will drop down if you run underneath it. Open the chest to obtain the Dungeon Map.

Adjacent to the chest is an oddly placed crate, roll into it and you will find your first Gold Skulltula. Since the only door on this floor is covered in a spider web, the only way to go is up. Climb the vines to the third floor.

Find the golden torch and dispatch of the lone Keese to cause you less pain. Look around for a switch not far from the torch, and step on it. It will light the torch, burning the web covering it. Go through the door.

In this room, if you light a Deku Stick and light the torch in the center of the room, a chest will fall. This chest will hold a Deku Shield if you don't still have one, or 5 rupees if you do. What you have to do in this room is kill all the enemies. There is an egg on the top of the room that you have to make fall to be able to do this. All the rest are pretty easy to see. You can press the switch on the same platform as the door you came in to make three platforms rise out of the ground to get to the higher ledges. Once you kill all the enemies a chest will appear. Open it to take the slingshot, and leave the room.

Opening the Basement

[edit | edit source]

Bombchus are required for this Gold Skulltula. In the room where you got the Compass, look to the upper left of the chest and you will see some boulders. Destroy them with bombchus. If you have "Song of Time", play it and use the bomb to open the area.

Kill the Keese as soon as you get out of there to avoid losing your shield if it lights itself on fire and touches you. Then run back to the vines that you climbed to get up here. Break the egg hanging above the vines with you new slingshot, and climb the vines back down (if you jump towards the vines Link should grab them). Kill the Gohma Larva if need be. Then, light a Deku Stick and take it to the web covering the door from earlier, and go through it.

In this room, break the eggs, and then kill the Giant Deku Baba (targeting him and shooting the slingshot at hims seems to work best) and then go through the door to the next room. You will see a floating platform in this room. Do not step on it! A spider will come down on top of you while the platform begins falling causing damage to you. Instead, shoot the egg in front of the treasure chest, and break another one on the ground. Shoot down one of the spiders climbing on the vines, then climb the vines. Run behind the chest and shoot the backside of the spider hanging from the ceiling to kill it. Then you can open the chest and get the Compass. You can now try to use the floating platform to get back to the door you came in from, or you can shoot the ladder down with you slingshot and climb it. Leave the room, and get back to the central room of the dungeon.

Jump down to the first floor of the dungeon and use the torch to burn away the web on the ground (rolling on the web seems to work best for lighting it on fire) and drop down into the basement.

Through the Basement

[edit | edit source]

The Song of Time is required for this Gold Skulltula. In the room with four torches play the song of time to create a staircase of time blocks to reach the token.

The Boomerang is required for this Gold Skulltula. Go in the room behind the other web in the four torch room. Kill all the enemies. The spider is in the very back on the wall.

Climb out of the water and onto the platform that has two Deku Babas and a switch on it. The switch lights a torch on the platform across the room. Use this torch to burn away a web with a switch behind it. Pressing the switch causes a chest to fall that contains a Deku Shield if you need one. Now use your slingshot to hit the golden eye switch above the door to and go through the door it unlocks.

In here you have to kill all the enemies so that the door you came from gets unlocked. The easy way to get rid of the eggs on the floor quickly is to throw a couple of Deku Nuts near them. There are also some eggs are hanging on the ceiling. Once you dispatch of the enemies, go back out through the door, and use the torch to light a Deku Stick and bring it through the door so you can light the two unlit torches. This will unlock the door and allow you to move on.

First get rid of the egg on the ceiling. There is a blue switch that will light the torch as long as you stand on it. When you step off the switch the torch dies out, but it gives you enough time that you are able to light a Deku Stick with it. Make sure that the platform in the water is right next to you when you do this so that you can jump right onto it. As the platform approaches the spiked log, prepare to roll underneath it (or hold the R button to kneel using the shield). Jump off the platform at the other end and light the two unlit torches to unlock the door. To avoid waiting to kill the hanging Skulltula, throw a Deku Nut to stun it and then sneak past.

An alternative method is after getting rid of the egg, light the Deku Stick and when the platform is near you go on it and roll under the spiked log. Then light the two torches. Then you can go behind the Skulltula and use the slingshot to kill it.

All you have to do in this room is kill all the enemies. The next room is easiest if you just kill all the enemies in it first. There is another blue switch in this room that does the same thing to all four of the torches. You have to use the flames to burn the web with a hole behind it, and then you can go to the first room of the basement, on the highest platform.

The Deku Scrub to the right will sell you a Deku Shield for 50 rupees if you throw a nut/shoot at him. On the left you must push the block so that it drops down to give you a step back up. Then use the torch to light a Deku Stick, and climb up the block you pushed so that you can burn the web on the floor and drop down to the last room before the boss.

This room also requires you have a shield. You have to deflect the nuts the Deku Scrubs shoot at you back at them. The order is a bit tricky as it is obtusely hidden in this very room. In the water there is a Recovery Heart in front if the first Deku Scrub, and two in front of the second Deku Scrub. This means the correct order is 3 (right), 1 (left), 2 (middle) (1, 3, 2 on 3DS). Just run into the middle one when he starts hopping around. He will give you a hint as to how to beat the boss, and then open the door for you. Go through the door to fight the boss.

Boss: Gohma (Quick Strategies)

[edit | edit source]
  • Wait until Gohma is on the ground and starts heading towards you.
  • Once Gohma's eye is red, shoot it with your Slingshot or use a Deku Nut to stun Gohma.
  • Run up to Gohma and start slashing her eye while it's on the ground and stunned. Keep slashing it as many times as you can.
  • Shoot Gohma with the slingshot when she climbs to the ceiling and starts laying eggs, or destroy the eggs she drops.
  • If you shoot Gohma on the ceiling when her eye is red, she will drop to the ground without producing any eggs.

If you need more help see Full Gohma Strategy.

Dodongo's Cavern

To access this dungeon, you must get Zelda's Lullaby, Saria's Song, and the Goron's Bracelet. Then you bomb the rock sitting in front of the cavern, walk inside and bomb the odd wall.

The first visit to the central room

[edit | edit source]

You can skip most of this dungeon by getting the bombs immediately upon entering. By jump slashing toward the green column hanging from the ceiling, you'll bounce off and land on the ledge with the bombs, enabling you to open the mouth early, thereby skipping the dungeon.

Once you enter the dungeon, jump to the center platform in the room. If you look to your right you will see an odd wall. Pick up the bomb flower and carry it over to the wall, and blast open the wall. You will find a treasure chest inside. The chest contains the Dungeon Map.

Now jump back to the central platform and look at the bottom of the room near the same side you found the map on. You should see a lone boulder lying down there. Go blow it up. Beneath it is a yellow switch. Stepping on it causes one pillar to go up to the second floor of the room. Use it to get to the top.

Up here you will see a wooden bridge. Cross it and on the other side you will find another yellow switch. Step on it to open a door below you. Now either jump down, or ride the pillar back down, and go through the door you opened.

A Compass, three Dodongos, and five silver Rupees

[edit | edit source]

This Skulltula requires the Song of Time. Go in the room behind the bomb able wall in the giant pillar room. Keep on playing the Song of Time on the left side of the room. The Gold Skulltula is under the back most time block.

You come into a room with a giant pillar in the middle of it surrounded by bomb flowers and guarded by two Beamos. Picking up a bomb and throwing it at the Beamos will kill them. There is also another bomb able wall in front of the pillar. Use another bomb flower to destroy it and uncover yet another bomb flower. Use the torch near it, and a Deku Stick to cause it to drop, and quickly throw/set it in the gap between all the bomb flowers. If you do it right it will cause a chain reaction of bomb flowers causing the pillar to lower and reveal a staircase.

Now it is time to collect some silver rupees. There are five of them throughout this room, and you probably already have the first one. They can be found by:

  • Blowing up the Beamos on the far side of the room from the entrance
  • Rolling into the crate behind the same Beamos
  • Rolling into the first crate on the left path at the top of the staircase
  • Rolling into the second crate on the right path at the top of the staircase
  • Climbing the vines where the two paths meet at the very top

This will unlock the door to the next room.

This room has three Dodongo's moving around a small pillar. On top of the pillar is a bomb flower giving you two ways to fight the beasts. You can either run around slicing the tails of the Dodongo's three or four times each, also while avoiding their fire breath when the spin around after there tail is hit; or you could climb the ladder to get to the top of the pillar and start throwing bombs at them. I prefer the second method. After you kill them a chest will appear that holds the Compass. Now leave through the Western Door.

Path of a pyromaniac

[edit | edit source]

In the room with the three floating torches is a door that opens when all three torches are lit. In that room the Skulltula is in the crates on the right wall.

You find yourself in the central room again. Just jump across the bridge to the next room. In here there is a lit torch next to you, three unlit torches hanging on walls below you, and a golden torch on a platform in front of you. Drop down to the bottom and you will also find three blocks that you can push. Drag them beneath the torches so you have platforms you can jump on to be able to light the torches. Now climb up the ladder back to where you started, light a stick, and use it to light the three torches. This will cause the golden torch to light up.

Now run over to the other side of the room and pull the block under the ladder out just enough so that you can climb both. Jump over to the golden torch and light a stick on fire. Jump the gap to the opening you jumped from and run to the next room. You will see a web in front of you. Don't burn it right away, instead throw a Deku Nut so that the Skulltula waiting for you is stunned. Then burn the web and light the two torches. This will light another golden torch on the other side of the room.

Now drop to the right of the platform and drag the block to the other side of the room. Use it to climb up. Kill the Skulltula and Keese in the hall and light another stick. Run it over to the bomb flower to make it drop and blow up the bomb able wall.

Lizards and rings of flame

[edit | edit source]

This Skulltula requires bombs. In the back of the room where you first fought the Lizalfos is a line of boulders. Bomb the ones in the center to open a path to the Gold Skulltula.

This room has two blade wielding Lizalfos in it. The easy strategy is to just have them come to you, then hit them, and guard when they jump over you and attack. You can get about three hits on them before they switch off to the other. They don't take too long to get rid of, and from here on out, you should just get used to them. Once you kill them go through the eastern door.

This room has two rings of fire on two platforms. First thing to do is kill the Keese immediately to your right. Then jump down to your left and go to the opposite side of the room and smash the crate. Behind it you will find a crystal switch. Don't hit it yet. Instead go back to where you entered from. If you stand on the edge of the platform you should be able to see the switch. Shoot it with your slingshot to get rid of the closest fire ring.

Jump on to the platform and look to your left. There is a little alcove with a bat and a bomb flower. Shoot the bat and jump over to get the bomb flower. Pick it up and take it to the side of the crystal switch (same half of the room) where you will find a boulder. Blow it up and it reveals a yellow switch. By now the crystal switch should be reset, so go over to it and hit it again. If it hasn't reset yet, just wait for it to do so. After you hit it quickly go over to the yellow switch and step on it. Now even quicker, climb back to where you entered the room and jump across the platforms to the opposite side.

Gaining the bombs with bomb flowers

[edit | edit source]

This Skulltula requires the Boomerang. In the poe room is a door to the right of the entrance. Unlock the door by using the bomb chain on the pillar right if front of the door. Kill all the enemies inside, the Skulltula is in the top left corner of the room.

You'll be back in the room with the torches all over the place. Just jump across in front of you and move on. If you need another Deku Shield there is one in the chest to the left. Now you will be back in the central room again. Use the bomb flower where it is at to get rid of the boulders. Now if you look at the bottom floor to the left you should see another wall that can be bombed. Pick up the bomb flower, and jump down there. You will not drop the bomb so do not accidentally drop it or throw it. Just carry it over to the wall and throw/set it. If you mess up you can just ride the pillar that rises to the top to get back to the bomb flower.

In the next room you will find two white blocks on the ground. The left one rises up to reveal a bomb flower, and the one on the right will reset the left one if you mess up. Carry the bomb flower to the boulder a little bit farther in the room. It has another bomb flower underneath it. You can use this to break open the wall on the south side and enter a room with a scrub in it. If you don't have a Deku shield, leave.

Now if you look just a little bit farther down the hall on the right side you will see a chain of bomb flowers going up the wall to the ceiling. Use the bomb flower near you to cause a chain reaction and destroy a rock on the wall. You will have to throw the bomb up the gap since you can't climb it while holding a bomb. Shoot the gold eye to open the door on the east side (to the Lizalfos).

There are another two Lizalfos in this room. Take care of them like the first time and leave through the northwest door. In this room is a bunch of Poes. Just run forward to the opposite end of the room. On the last column you will see another line of bombs going up, and a bomb flower beyond it. Use the bomb flower for another chain reaction. Go through the door it opens, and open the chest. Huzzah! You no longer need to use the bomb flowers, you have bombs of your own.

Opening the maw of the dead Dodongo

[edit | edit source]

Near the wall of fire rings lying on top of the wall is a Golden Skulltula. This Skulltula can be fought and the token acquired by roll jumping from the top of the clear box to the ledge with the Skulltula. Or, if that is too difficult, use the Boomerang.

Now you will be back on the first floor of the central room. Ride the pillar back to the very top. Drop your bombs in the gaps on the bridge to turn the dead Dodongo's eyes red causing it's mouth to open. Going through the door brings you to the last big room before the boss.

Head to the hole to the right and go through the hall. At the end be careful of the two Baby Dodongo's below you so you don't jump into them. After they dig into the ground they won't come back. Head to the left to get to the center of the room. Another Lizalfo will attack you. This one won't run away from you since it can't send a buddy after you. After you kill him grab the tombstone closest to the rings of fire and pull it back. Now use the tombstone to get high enough to throw a bomb across. It will hit a crystal switch that gets rid of the fire for a little while.

On the other side you will see seven Armos Statues and a door to your right. If you go through the door and kill the Poe inside, you can pull the tombstone to reveal a little chest that contains a free Hylian Shield for you. Back to the Armos Statues; you can kill them by throwing lots of bombs at them. I advise you to stay near the door to the Hylian Shield. More than likely you will also set of the bomb chain right next to them. The chain hits a crystal switch that causes the cobweb block behind the statues to make a step for you. After climbing over it, on your left you will find pots. One contains a fairy if you want it or can use it. Moving on, you will find another tombstone. Pulling it reveals a yellow switch. Stepping on it unlocks the door to the boss. Go through the door, drop a bomb in the middle, open the chest for more bombs if you need them, and fall down the hole you made.

Boss: King Dodongo

[edit | edit source]
For more details on the full King Dodongo strategy, see The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Dodongo's Cavern#Boss: King Dodongo.
  • Throw a bomb in his mouth as he gets ready to breath fire on you to stun him.
  • Attack him with a jump attack.
  • When he rolls around the room either defend with the Hylian Shield or stand on the edge of the platform near the lava.
  • Chase him after he passes you and repeat.

Jabu-Jabu's Belly

Getting to this dungeon requires getting the Silver Scale, the Letter in a Bottle, and a fish fed to Jabu-Jabu.

Finding the Zora Princess

[edit | edit source]
The strangest dungeon thus far awaits.

Once you enter the dungeon you will notice many strange things within. First, blast open the boulder with a bomb. There will be a yellow switch beneath it. Pressing the switch will make a chest appear. The chest holds the dungeon map. If you shoot the cow on the left with your slingshot, the membrane over the door will disappear allowing you to continue.

In this room you encounter Biri for the first time. Right now the best way to deal with them is to use bombs. To open the door across from you, drop down the hole to the bottom of the room. Down here you will see a cow in a hole. Shoot it to make a treasure chest appear. The chest is through the little hole. Just dive down into it. Be careful of the Stinger. On the other side you will find a yellow switch and the chest. Inside of the chest is the Compass. Pressing the switch will make the door above open up. Go back through the hole and climb onto the spiked platform to go back up. Jump off towards the door. Be sure not to touch the wiggling red things and get through the door.

Here you find the Zora Princess, Ruto. She will ask you why you are in this giant fish, and claim not to have written the letter in the bottle. After this she tries to walk away, but falls down one of the pits in the room. Drop down after her.

Boomerang

[edit | edit source]

This Skulltula requires the Song of Time. there is a time block in the room holding the boomerang. The Gold Skulltula is underneath.
File:Zelda OOT Master Quest JabuSkulltula 1.jpg

If you talk to her two more times, she will let you carry her through the dungeon. Instead, shoot the cow heads to have them drop chests. One has Deku Nuts in it, the other has Bombchus. Make sure to get the Bombchus – you need them. Step on the yellow switch on the floor to have water raise you up. Jump over to the platform with Ruto and pick her up. Jump down and throw her to the platform with a blue switch on it. Step on the yellow switch again and get on the platform. Pick up Ruto again and step on the switch, then set Ruto down on it. One final time, step on the yellow switch so you can get to the platform with the newly opened door.

In here another Lizalfo comes down and attacks you. After you kill him move deeper into the room. You will see a Like-Like in the water, with two stingers swimming around. Bombs (not bombchus) do wonders in this room. After you get rid of all the enemies, the chest holding the Boomerang will appear. Press the yellow switch in the middle of the water to raise the water level so you can reach the vines to climb up and open the chest.

To Mini-Boss

[edit | edit source]

For another way to obtain this Gold Skulltula Token see the Gold Skulltulas page.

This Skulltula requires the Song of Time. In the room just right of the green tentacle's room. Use the switch in the center of the room to have water raise you up. Play the Song of Time to make a time block appear. Blow up the boulder to reveal the Skulltula.

File:Zelda OOT Master Quest JabuSkulltula 2.jpg

Din's Fire and the Lens of Truth is required for this Skulltula. In the room that Ruto fell into the door near the vines to the upper room is protected by a blue tentacle. After you get rid of the blue tentacle enter the room. Kill all the enemies to make a platform appear that can be used to get up to the Skulltula. Use Din's Fire to burn the web and the boomerang to collect the token. The switch in the water opens the way out of the room.

File:Zelda OOT Master Quest JabuSkulltula 3.jpg

Getting out of this room can be done in two ways. Both put you in familiar territory. If you go back out the way you came, go up the vines next to where you got the bombchus. If you go out the other way, use the spiked platform to get back up to the room full of pits.

In the corner of the room near the pit that Ruto fell down you will find three boulders on the wall. Send a bombchu up to reveal a cow. Shoot the cow to open the door behind the red wiggling thing in the room. Go over to it and throw your boomerang at it. It will be stunned and you can climb over it to the door.

When in this room, go through the path to the right, past the web covered doorway to the next door. Hit the cows one at a time. They will each drop a Like-Like on you. After defeating both of them you will open the door, light the torch, and make a chest with a Deku Stick appear. Use the stick to light the web in the hall off the doorway, and get into that room.

In this room is a giant tentacle hanging from the ceiling. To kill it you have to throw the boomerang at its center three times. After you hit it once with the boomerang it will retreat up into the ceiling until you get close enough for it to strike you. You have to get close, but be quick and throw the boomerang at it again. Once it is dead, all of the blue colored tentacles will be gone. Next is the red colored tentacle.

Go back to the center of the branching hallways. In the center hallway you will see boulders. They shouldn't concern you right now. Just walk about halfway down the hall to trigger the Lizalfo. After it is dead, blow up the boulders with a bomb to reveal a blue switch, then go to the opposite hallway you did before. You will see small crates lying on the ground. Pick one up and set it on the blue switch to get to the next room. The room contains a tentacle just like the last one. Once it is destroyed, go back down the hallway you came from and kill the Lizalfo again. Now go back to the hallway with the crates, and go through the hallway on the far left. In here is the last tentacle, the green one. Once it is defeated go back to the room with all the pits and go back to Ruto.

Once back, pick her up and step on the yellow switch. When the water gets to the top, jump over to the highest platform you can reach. Go through that door. Ruto will be all excited because she found what she was looking for. Just throw her on the platform and get ready for a fight.

Mini-Boss: Big Octo (Quick Strategies)

[edit | edit source]
For more details on the full Big Octo strategy, see The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Jabu-Jabu's Belly#Mini-Boss: Big Octo.
  • Throw your boomerang to stun him.
  • After the stun wears off he will spin and either face you or his back to you.
    • If his back is towards you, hit him with your boomerang and you will see his weak spot.
    • If his face is towards you, hit him with your boomerang and hope that he faces the other way.

To Boss

[edit | edit source]

In the room before Barinade, climb up the vines in the middle of the room. Behind a small wall of web you will see the Skulltula. Stand in the very center of the platform and throw your boomerang at about about the same angle as the picture shows.
File:Zelda OOT Master Quest JabuSkulltula 4.jpg

Jump on the platform in the center of the room and it will rise up. Look for the cow head and shoot it. This will open the door. Inside you will see two wiggly red things. First, in the back of the room is a cow head. Shoot it with your slingshot. This will make two small crates appear behind you. Pick one up and set it down closer to the red wiggly thing. You are going to have to carry it over them. Throw the boomerang at the first one and stun it, then jump on top of it with the crate, and set the crate down. Hit the second one, pick up the crate, and jump over the second one to the door with a blue switch in front of it. Set the crate on the blue switch and go through the door.

Go through and jump across the gap. The platform will lower itself and will give you access to a part of the dungeon that was inaccessible. Go through that door. In here look to your right to see a cow head. Shoot it once, and it should drop rupees and rise up. Shoot it two more times and it will open the door to the boss. Just jump down and run towards the door while avoiding the Like-Like below.

Boss: Barinade

[edit | edit source]
For more details on the full Barinade strategy, see The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Jabu-Jabu's Belly#Boss: Barinade.
  • Avoid electricity shot at you by side-hopping.
  • Destroy three tentacles at top.
  • Wait for Barinade to stop, then destroy all his jellyfish.
    • If needed, repeat this.
  • After the jellyfish are gone, he will spin around the room.
    • Hit him with your boomerang to stop him, and start attacking him.
  • When his body falls beneath the floor, just avoid the electricity being shot at you.

Forest Temple

Entrance area

[edit | edit source]

Immediately upon entry, go to the vines to your left. There are a bunch of Skullwalltulas on that vine, and you can only kill the first few with your Hookshot, so you'll need to climb up the vine slowly to not attract the attention of the other Skullwalltulas. On the 3DS or on other systems, there might be another patch of vines you can climb on the other side of the tree so you don't have to bother with the Skullwalltulas. Once on top of the tree, kill the Skulltula hanging from the ceiling with your Hookshot, then jump across to the other tree and step on the switch. This will reveal a treasure chest with a small key inside.

First Forest Skulltula

Right above the locked door sits a Gold Skultulla. Kill it with the Hookshot, then get its token the same way.

Jump down and go to the next room. This passageway is full of Skulltulas, but these are no match against your Hookshot. Use your small key to open the locked door at the end and go through it.

Forest Temple, part 1

[edit | edit source]

You're now in the large main room. Go forward and a cutscene will start showing the Poe Sisters taking away the flames, which causes the elevator to lower down. Your job is to regain the flames to re-enable the elevator so you can get to the boss area.

Go straight across to the room in front of you. Here, you'll see a Temple of Time block - play the Song of Time to make it disappear and reveal the door to the next room. In this room you'll have to fight two Wolfos. Kill them and a chest will appear with a small key inside. Return to the main room.

Once back, go to the door to the right. In this passageway, the door will lock behind you and you'll have to fight against a Stalfos. The fight is mainly difficult due to the small size of the passageway, but you can use it to your advantage by simply standing still and striking the Stalfos when he jumps at you (since he cannot walk around he will do this very often) to dispose of him quickly. Once he's gone, the doors will unlock, so continue forward.

Second Forest Skulltula

Go around the left pillar and you'll find a Gold Skulltula on the ground on the other side. Strike it with your sword to claim its token.

You'll now be in a large room with many passageways. This room features a difficult block puzzle where you have to think logically to progress. Continue by climbing the ladders right in front of you. Once up, go around and Navi will notify you of arrows printed on the ground. Ignore them since they're meaningless in Master Quest. Look around the corner and you'll see a green block. Grab it and pull it out so it reveals a path behind it. Follow this path and go right twice and you'll see another green block. Push this one all the way forward and it will sink down which allows you to climb it up. Don't climb it up just yet though as the path is blocked, instead return to where the other block was and climb up the ladder. Here, go around and you'll see a brown block. Pull it back all the way, then return to the green block and climb it up. Now, follow the path there and push the brown block forward which is blocking the path all the way and it will sink as well. Climb it up to the next passageway.

Hitting the crystal switch here will reveal a Hookshot target which is a helpful shortcut for later. Go to the right and you'll find another ladder for you to climb up. Once up you'll be in a room with two Blue Bubbles, ignore them and unlock the door right in front of you to continue. Follow the corridor through and jump down to acquire the Big Key, then fall down the hole right next to you. This room contains a Floormaster, kill it and the door will unlock allowing you to continue.

Third Forest Skulltula

Jump down into the garden area. In the back right corner there will be vines that lead to a Gold Skulltula. Kill it with your sword and claim your token.

You'll now be in the second garden area. Follow the path to the right and you will see two doors at the end. Take the right door first and you'll land in a room with a Redead. Kill the Redead and a treasure chest will appear with a small key inside. Once done, go out and take the other door. You'll now be in the block room again, but this time in an isolated part with a crystal switch. Hit it and the corridor at the top will twist. Now, use the platforms and the Hookshot targets to quickly climb up the room and go to the corridor. Go through the now twisted corridor, then jump across the pillars and unlock the door at the end to go through.

You'll now be in one of the Poe Sisters' room, but you can't do a lot just yet so just go down all the way and go into the next room.

Miniboss: Stalfos

[edit | edit source]

You'll come across a room with a large gap in the middle. Don't fall into this gap or you'll have to backtrack all the way. A Stalfos will appear shortly. This fight is similar to the previous fight but because of the larger room, you'll have to change tactics. Block its jump attacks with your shield and strike as its shield is down. (Note that the Stalfos can freely hover over the gap in the middle) Once you kill this Stalfos, a platform will drop down from above and two more Stalfos will appear. You'll have to kill these fast enough before the first Stalfos resurrects. Attack aggressively and use Deku Nuts if you have any to stun the Stalfos. Once these two are gone, a treasure chest will appear in the middle containing the Fairy Bow, which allows you to shoot arrows.

Forest temple, part 2

[edit | edit source]

Go out either door. Here, there are three frames, and in one of them there will be a picture of a Poe Sister. The frame she's in will change periodically. Be careful about getting too close, or else she'll switch which frame she's in. When she's in a frame, shoot the picture with your bow it will disappear. She will now appear in a different frame. Once you've shot all the frames, the Poe Sister will appear and move to the bottom of the room, where you need to fight her. Simply hold your shield out to block her attack, then strike with your sword. Repeat this strategy until she is dead. This will cause one of the flames to appear again in the main room, and it will also cause a treasure chest to appear with the Dungeon Map inside.

Now, go through the door and walk across to the next room. This is just like the previous room - shoot all the pictures, then fight the Poe Sister at the bottom. She's a bit smarter because she likes to skip the attack and just appear out of nowhere. Once she's gone, another flame will appear in the main room, and a treasure chest will appear containing the Compass. You can't go up to the next room because the door is locked, so go all the way back to the main room.

Fourth Forest Skulltula

In the first garden area, from the entrance go forward, pull out your Hookshot and turn around. Above you there will be a Gold Skulltula in front of the Hookshot target. Shoot it with the Hookshot and claim its token.

Once there, look at the northeast corridor (the one where the blue flame is). The door is locked, but there's an eye switch above the corridor which you can hit with your bow. Do so to unlock the door and then go through. You'll now be in the first garden area. Go to the right and jump up onto the sides of the well. Look down into the water and you should notice an eye switch, shoot it with your bow to drain the well. Jump down the drained well and open the treasure chest for a small key. There's nothing else to do there, so get back up by climbing the ladder.

Fifth Forest Skulltula

Run all the way through the drained well. At the grating at the end, there will be a Gold Skulltula - shoot it and claim its token.

Go across the room and you'll see a Temple of Time block above. Play the Song of Time and the block will move a bit closer to you. Now, pull out your Hookshot and look above the door you just came and you'll see a Hookshot target. Use it (you'll probably need to kill the Gold Skulltula first) and once up, jump across to the Temple of Time block. Here, play the Song of Time again and a second block will appear in front of you. Jump across and pull out your bow. Look on the wall at the other side and you'll see a Skullwalltula. Use your bow to kill it, then pull out your Hookshot and pull yourself to the vines, and climb them up to the balcony. The treasure chest here contains another small key. Now, look across to the other balcony and use the Hookshot target to pull yourself over to it, then go through the door.

In this room, first of all kill the Skulltula hanging from the ceiling. Now, you'll notice a door blocked off by a web. While you no longer have Deku Sticks available, you can do something else: stand in front of the torch so you can see the web from it, then shoot an arrow through the torch's flame. The arrow will catch fire and burn down the web allowing you to continue. In the next area, immediately kill the Skulltula doing erratic movements right in front of you. You're now back in the second garden area - just jump down and go through the door at the bottom to return to the main room. Here, take the west door and backtrack all the way to the room where you fought the second Poe sister. Since you now have two small keys you can easily unlock the door at the top.

In this room, jump across to the south corridor and bypass the Green Bubbles (or kill them), then unlock the door in front of you and go through. Here, you'll encounter a small puzzle. Jump onto one of the revolving platforms and jump to the right platform with the frozen eye switch. There will be a wooden box there, pick it up, jump across to the center platform and drop the box onto the switch so the torch will be lit. Now, pull out your bow, and wait until you're perfectly lined up with the torch and the eye switch, then fire a well-placed arrow to melt the ice and activate the eye switch. This will twist the corridor you just went through. Now, destroy the wooden box, then go back through the door. Run through the twisted corridor, then jump down and drop down through the hole.

In the following room, when you run forward the ceiling will drop down on you which will crush you. However, there are holes which allow you to survive. First of all, use your bow to take out all the Skulltulas scattered across the ceiling (there should be seven of them). Then, hug the right wall and run across, staying in the holes when the ceiling drops down. At the end, you'll find a switch, activate it to reveal a treasure chest on the other side of the room. The other switch will unlock the door on the other side of the room. The treasure chest just contains a few arrows and the door in front of you is locked, so run all the way back, go into the passage and open the door there.

You'll appear back in the first garden area. Drop down onto the island to find a treasure chest with a small key inside. To get back, jump onto the first Temple of Time block and play the Song of Time to make a stepping stone appear. Jump up there and play the Song of Time again to make a block appear in front of you, allowing you to get across and return to the ceiling room. To your joy, all the Skulltulas have regenerated so you'll need to kill them all again (or at least the ones on the right side). Then run across the room again and unlock the door this time to go through.

You'll now be in a room with a large Poe Sister painting. Shoot it to start a puzzle. You'll need to push four blocks together to create a picture, which will make the Poe Sister reveal herself. There's also a fifth block, however, which does not belong in there and which you'll have to single out. You only get one minute of time to complete the puzzle so you'll have to be quick. Once the puzzle is completed, the Poe Sister will reveal herself. Just kill her like the other two before to make another flame appear in the main room.

Go through the door, then run across the empty corridor to return to the main room. Jump down to the elevator and the fourth Poe Sister will reveal herself. She works differently from the others - she'll split into four, and only one of them is the real deal. You can easily single her out because the real one will spin around right at the beginning. Shoot her five times with the bow and she will die. Now that all the flames are back, the elevator will reappear as well. Jump onto it and take a ride into the basement.

You can push the walls here to reveal different corridors. Push the walls once counter-clockwise to reveal an corridor leading to a useless treasure chest, it has arrows. Push the walls counter-clockwise again and you'll reveal a corridor with a crystal switch at the top. Shoot the crystal switch to make the bars disappear right behind it, then step on the switch. Push the walls counter-clockwise again to reveal a corridor with two Skulltulas hanging from the ceiling. It has nothing useful, so push the walls counter-clockwise once again to make the path to the boss door appear, but it's inaccessible... Go into the corridor on the opposite side, then turn around and look up to notice an eye switch. Hit it to make the bars disappear which blocked off the path to the boss door. Now, run across and open the boss door...

Fire Temple

The Goron Tunic

[edit | edit source]

Use a bomb to stop the rolling Goron. Speak to him about the Dragon and the Gorons. He will ask you to rescue them and give you the Goron Tunic to aid you in your quest. The door to Darunia's room and the Goron shop will open automatically. Now enter Darunia's room and pull the statue at the back of the room to reveal a hidden entrance that leads to the Fire Temple. Make sure you put on your Goron Tunic or you won't be able to stay here very long because of the heat. Use the hookshot to get across to the bridge and Sheik will appear to teach you the The Bolero of Fire , then mysteriously disappear once again.

The Fire Temple

[edit | edit source]

Meeting Darunia

[edit | edit source]

As soon as you enter, go forward. If you try to climb the stairs you'll quickly find that a flame wall blocks your progress. Jump onto the side banisters of the steps and jump back onto the steps above the flame wall to go up. Once at the top, you'll see that only one flame is burning and the others are all extinguished. Stand roughly at the top of the stairs and use Din's Fire, if you positioned yourself correctly all the torches should light up, opening the door up top. Go through.

Here, you'll meet Darunia, who tells you that the dragon Volvagia is the source of all the trouble. After he leaves for the boss room, jump across the platforms to the right and use your Hookshot to get to a bunch of pots and crates. Use Din's Fire here, which will light the torch stuck inside the Hookshot target, then pull out the bow and shoot an arrow to light the lone torch on the other side of the room. If you did this correctly, the gate should open, get across (with the Goron Tunic you can safely walk across the lava) and open the chest to get a Small Key.

Getting the Hammer

[edit | edit source]

Exit the room the way you came from, jump down the staircase and go through the locked door on the right side. You'll immediately be greeted by a Keese and two Stalfos. Dispose of these enemies and the door ahead will open. In here, first raise your shield to block the floor tile attack, then get rid of the Iron Knuckle.

Go through the door that opens to meet the mini-boss of the dungeon, the Flare Dancer. You must use your Hookshot to pull the core out of him, and then strike it with your sword. After a while the core will jump back into the fire and the Flare Dancer will reappear. Repeat this procedure until he dies. You'll be rewarded with the Megaton Hammer. The next room gives you your first opportunity to use it - hit the rusted switch to open the gates and open the chest to get the Dungeon Map. On your way out you'll be ambushed by a Like-Like, if it eats your shield kill it and a chest containing a new one will appear.

Climbing the temple, 1F

[edit | edit source]
First Fire Skulltula

In the lava room, go to the north and take the lower door. Hit the rusted switch with the Megaton Hammer to free the Goron and you'll be able to snag the Gold Skulltula inside his cell.

The door leads back to the main room. Climb the stairs and use the Megaton Hammer to kick the blocks at the right wall out of the way, revealing a door. Go through to land in a large lava room. First, go to the large flame wall you see at the south. Climb the moving platform right in front of it and use Din's Fire to light the lone torch, which will make a bunch of Hookshot platforms appear across the room. Hookshot the torch to get through the flame wall, and bomb the wall behind it to make a door appear. Go through, and as you enter, use Din's Fire to make the gate open, which frees another Goron. Open the chest to get a Small Key.

Afterwards, go to the other side, i. e. the north. Jump across the platforms until you find one which launches you upward. It leads you into a cave, use Din's Fire here to light the torch and then use an arrow to light the other torch next to the locked door way down. This will open the locked door, so jump down and go through. In here, after enduring another floor tile attack, use your Hookshot at the large chest to get to it, then open it to get the Big Key. Use the torch on the other side to get through the flame wall, then exit the room.

Go to the locked door at the east and open it with your small key. Use the Hookshot at the grating to pull yourself to it, then climb it all the way up. Walk around until you're at either of the two sides and jump down onto one of the two platforms. From here, you'll need to jump on top of the block as (not before or after) it launches up, which requires a great deal of timing. It leads you to the next floor, so go through the door.

Climbing the temple, 2F

[edit | edit source]

Go to the left and climb up the structure. Light up the big torch with Din's Fire and a Hookshot target will appear. Once you reach the grating you'll face a surprise attack by a lone Lizalfos. Kill it (or ignore it) and climb up the grating, then go through the door.

Climbing the temple, 3F

[edit | edit source]

The maze you just ended up in is full of Lizalfos. Make your way to the south-west corner. Shoot the switch with an arrow (it can freely pass through) to open the gate, then Hookshot your way up. Jump across atop the maze and go to the north until you come across a cracked floor. Bomb it to reveal a large hole in the ground. Jump down and break all the crates here until you find a rusted switch. Hit it and the gates will open, open the chest to get the Compass. Climb back up to the maze afterwards.

Second Fire Skulltula

In the maze room, once back up at the hole, play the Song of Time where Navi turns green to make a blue block appear. Climb on top of the Hookshot target, jump across to the blue block and use the Hookshot to get all across to an elevator which will take you one floor up. Up there, go through the door, then hookshot the symbol on the wall to make the next door up open. Kill the torch slugs (or ignore them), then climb up the gratings and go through the door. Once at the top floor, walk up the path until you reach the flame pillar. Hit the rusted switch with the Megaton Hammer to make Hookshot platforms appear. Jump back down and step on the switch to make the fire go out. Use the Hookshot platform right up to get up in time and push the block out of the way to reveal a Gold Skulltula hiding under it.

Go to the northwest corner and bomb the wall to reveal an alcove with a switch. Go back to the south and grab a small crate from the alcove with the crystal switch, then take it all the way to the switch (you should kill the Lizalfos as they may turn out to be a nuisance) and drop it to open the door ahead. Step on the switch to free the Goron and open the chest to get a Small Key. Get back to the maze, climb back up and open the locked door at the west.

Go to the left and climb the wall to get inside the barred area. On the other side, Hookshot yourself up to the crate and pick up the small crate. Jump back down and drop it onto the switch to light some torches. Hookshot yourself back up and jump onto the grating. If you look above the caged-in area, you should see an unlit torch near the ceiling. Use the torches burning on the pillars and shoot an arrow to light the unlit torch, which will unlock the door. Jump across and go through the door, then follow the passageway to the next area.

In here, jump across to the platform in the middle and use your Megaton Hammer at the face in the middle to make it fall down. Now, unless you're hunting for Gold Skulltulas, you're done here - fall down the hole and use the newly created platform to get to the boss door.

Fire Skulltulas Hunt

If you wish, however, to get the other three Gold Skulltulas hidden in this temple, read on:
  • From the middle platform, jump across to the door and go through. Use your Hookshot on the target at the other side to get across the flame walls, then hit the rusted switch to make the door at the bottom open. Climb the Hookshot target and jump over the flame wall to the bottom. Bomb the wall at the back of the alcove to reveal the third Gold Skulltula. Exit through the north door.
  • Now, walk along the flame wall until you find a switch. Step on it and quickly jump to the back of the room before the flame wall reappears. Go through the door to meet the Flare Dancer again. Dispose of him like you did the last time and once he is gone, step on the platform where the Flare Dancer was and it will launch upward, quickly jump off and you'll find a Small Key lying around on the ground where the platform was. After acquiring it, take the platform up and go through the door. Climb up the gratings here to get to the top and go through the locked door there.
Walk up the stairs and after a while you should notice Navi going green. Play the Scarecrow's Song here and Pierre the Scarecrow will appear. Now jump down onto the switch, which will make the fire at the top go out. Use the scarecrow to get up and open the chest to get a Small Key. Go back down to the door and hit the face with the Megaton Hammer to make it fall down. Follow it and enter the locked door. Go forward and get rid of the two Stalfos. Hit the pillar with the Megaton Hammer to make a staircase appear. Hookshot the symbol on the wall to unlock the door at the bottom, then go through. To your right you'll find the fourth Gold Skulltula.
  • Hit the face with the Megaton Hammer and drop down with it. Climb up to the door and face the north. Navi will turn green, play the Song of Time here to make a blue block appear. Jump onto it and make a jump to the northwest. From here you should be able to reach the door at the north-east. Here, a Lizalfos guards the fifth Gold Skulltula. To get back out, exit the room and go south until Navi turns green. Play the Song of Time to make a blue block appear, which allows you to jump back over the flame walls.

BOSS: Volvagia

[edit | edit source]

Volvagia fights the same way he does in regular Ocarina of Time, so refer to that page for details.

Ice Cavern

Right at the beginning there are boulders rolling down the path. Wait until one has passed, then run to the single pot, wait again, and run down the passageway once the boulder has passed you.

In the next room there is a Freezard and two Blue Tektites. First kill the two Tektites and then dispose of the Freezard. The path further is blocked off, but look to the right to see a well hidden crystal switch which will remove the barrier. Hit it with your bow and continue forward. This passageway has rolling boulders again - wait until one has passed then run across to the next room, you should just barely make it.

The next room appears to be empty, but jump down and you'll notice there are several Freezards here as well as a White Wolfos. You could just use one well placed Din's Fire to get rid of all of them in one go. Once all enemies are dead, the bars will disappear allowing you to continue. The next room contains a Blue Fire flame, but first kill all the Gray Wolfos that appear. Go around the left pillar to find a crystal switch which will make a treasure chest appear inside the red ice platform. Catch some Blue Fire from the nearby flame and use it here to melt the ice platform. You'll then be able to open the treasure chest which contains the Dungeon Map. Catch another bottle of Blue Fire and exit the room the way you came from.

First Ice Skulltula

In the Compass room, there's a Gold Skulltula inside a red ice block. To be able to melt the red ice block, run towards it and play the Song of Time to make Temple of Time blocks appear.
Shy Heart

In the Compass room, look at the ground and you should see a tiny bit of a Crystal switch submerged into the ground. Lay a bomb next to it to trigger it, which will cause a Heart Piece to appear on a nearby pillar. Simply jump across to get your prize.

Once back in the previous room, use the Blue Fire on the red ice blocking the path at the top. The next passageway features rolling boulders and Freezards. Run across the corridor, dispose of the Freezards, then continue, the boulders should not be an issue this time around since the passageway is very large. The next room features a path across several pillars and more Freezards. This is another room where Din's Fire will come in handy. Run along the passage, killing some Freezards on the way, to get to a treasure chest containing the Compass. Use the opportunity to catch another bottle of Blue Fire at the flame in the center, then return to the previous room.

Second Ice Skulltula

Look above you to notice a crystal switch. Hitting it will make the ice platforms at the south side of the room disappear, revealing a Gold Skulltula underneath.

This time, melt the red ice blocking the bottom path. The next passageway features yet more rolling boulders, so just get across. The next room features Ice Keese which can freeze you solid, so you'll definitely want to take them down first. Jump down into the room and two White Wolfos will appear, kill them or wait until they fall into the pit. There's a Blue Fire flame on the opposite side of the room, to get to it, run across and play the Song of Time to make a Temple of Time block appear. Catch some Blue Fire in a bottle, then get to the south path and use the Blue Fire to melt the red ice blocks. There are some more Ice Keese in this corridor, just run across (or kill them) to get to a door and open it.

Third Ice Skulltula

Get to the north pathway and play the Scarecrow's Song. Latch yourself onto the Scarecrow to get into an alcove with another Gold Skulltula.

You'll now be in a quite strange looking room. Walk forward and you'll meet the miniboss, a Stalfos. You already fought them in the Forest Temple, and the same strategies apply here - strike with your sword when he drops his guard, defend with your shield when he's about to strike. Once he's gone, a treasure chest will appear in the room, open it to get the Iron Boots. These heavy boots make you move very slowly but make you sink to the ground even in water. As soon as you collect them, Sheik will engage you and teach you the Serenade of Water.

Once that is done, the hole behind the treasure chest provides an excellent opportunity to try out the Iron Boots. Jump into the water and put on the Iron Boots, you'll promptly sink to the ground. There, open the door and walk out to return to the Tektite room. You're done in this level, so simply exit the level the way you entered it.

Water Temple

Proceed forward and remove your Iron boots to enter the central chamber. Re-equip your Iron boots and proceed to the bottom level of the right wall. Enter the passage here and at the end you will encounter Ruto, who is still harboring an unhealthy infatuation with Link. Remove your boots again and ascend to the surface of the chamber. You will see a triforce emblem mounted on the wall. Play Zelda's Lullaby at the emblem to lower the water level.

Dungeon Map

[edit | edit source]

Before jumping down, instead use Din's Fire in the middle of the chamber to light the torches in the room. It will unlock the door behind you. Enter the doorway and fight a trio of Stalfos. Defeat them and then use your hookshot on the only panel on the wall in the room. You should do this to every one of those panels you encounter here, so make note of what it looks like. Doing so, you will obtain the Dungeon Map.

Compass

[edit | edit source]

Leave the room, jump down to the bottom level and use Din's Fire again to light the torches on the bottom level. Enter the doorway there and fight a trio of Lizalfos, then hookshot the wall panel to obtain the Compass.

Longshot

[edit | edit source]

Exit and immediately use your hookshot on one of the two pillars to be able to hookshot up to the middle level with the wall already blasted out. Hookshot the panel in the room you find there to get the Longshot.

Return to the central area and enter the middle pillar doorway on it's south side. Inside the pillar, use your Longshot to climb to the upper level. Head to the south-west side of the platform and use your Longshot to pull yourself over to the nearby platform with another Triforce symbol on the wall. Play Zelda's Lullaby to raise the water level to the top.

Head back to the middle pillar in the central room and put on your Iron Boots so you can enter through the middle level doorway. Once inside, remove your Iron Boots and climb onto the floating platform. Play the Song of Time to make a block appear in the center of the chamber, where Navi will glow green. Hop onto the block that appears and use Din's Fire to light the torches in the room. This will unlock the chamber at the bottom of this area. Throw on your Iron Boots and descend to the bottom and through the passage.

Small Key

[edit | edit source]

At the end of the passage you will come to a chamber with stone walls and boxes. There are two silver switches in this room. You can ignore the obviously visible one, and head over to the two half-high walls tucked in the corner where the second switch is hidden. Hit it, and remove your iron boots to enter the room that was unlocked by the switch. You'll find another paneled wall to Longshot for a Small Key. Return to the central chamber once again.

Use your small key on the only locked door in the room. In this chamber, walk up to the edge of the platform and use your Longshot. Look up to see a silver switch. Strike it, and jump down to the moving platform below. Longshot over to the top-leftmost target. From where you land, use the Longshot again on the left wall panel to raise the topmost target. Longshot over to the raised target and go through the doorway to the next room.

Here, jump down and fight another trio of Stalfos. Defeating them raises the dragon-head statues in the room. Longshot over to the one that was to your right when you entered the room. Navi will go green at the center column. Get to the far platform and play the Sun Song where Navi is green, Catch the first fairy and then Longshot up to the door area, You can then jump diagonally to the ledge on the far side with the three pots. Two more fairies are in the pots. Catch them if you need them. Go back to the high ledge where you must Longshot again over some spikes. Navi will go green in two places here. The Sun Song will call a fourth fairy on the right, The Song of Storms for a fifth on the left. If you miss them or accidently use them up exit through the door you came in and re-enter. They will come back. You will need them. Now enter the next area.

You will find a vast expansive lake with a lone tree and island in the middle. Run to the other side of the area, and then run back to the island to fight... Dark Link! Defeat him with the Megaton Hammer and the room will transform into a plain ordinary room.

Go through the door to the new room and Longshot the wall panel to open the grate beneath it. Hop on down.

Jump in the river here and avoid the whirlpools. Midway through you will have a chance to snag a skulltula, if you're doing that. At the end of the river, Longshot up to the doorway and enter the next chamber.

Toss on your Iron Boots and enter the small underwater room next to the dragon's head statue with your Longshot. Take off your Iron Boots and swim up to the small alcove. You will find another wall panel to Longshot. Use Din's Fire to light the torches to unlock the door. Put on your boots again and go to the next chamber.

Boss Key

[edit | edit source]

Hit the silver switch in the next room to raise the water platform. Jump onto the platform and use Din's Fire one last time to light the torches and raise the gate. Open the chest beyond the gate to get the Boss Key.

Continue down the hallway and put on your Iron Boots to return to the central chamber. Longshot up to get to the exit and step on the switch to unlock the gate. Take off your boots one last time and swim to the surface.

Longshot over to the Dragon Head Statue and enter the door behind it.

In this room, shoot the switch above the boss door to raise a Longshot target. Longshot over and enter to battle Morpha.

Boss: Morpha

[edit | edit source]

Jump onto one of the platforms in this water-filled chamber to activate the boss fight. Return to a corner of the room and wait for Morpha to start conjuring a tentacle. Run to the next corner and use your Longshot to yank Morpha out of his tentacle and give it a slash. Rinse, and repeat a few times to make this boss dry up. Collect your Heart Container and hop into the blue light to get your Water Medallion. Congratulations, you've finished the Water Temple in Master Quest.

Bottom of the Well

As you enter, crawl through the hole right in front of you. Once done, climb down the ladder. Right on the way is a Redead, get behind it and kill it if you want, then progress to the main area.

Bombing the rubble to the left of the barred passageway leads to a small cave with some recovery hearts, which is helpful to know for later. For now, go to the left and into the first alcove. Bomb the rock here to uncover an eye switch, hit it with your slingshot and you'll see a grating open somewhere else. Now, go around the level following the water until you see two rocks to your right, lay a bomb to blow them up. Throw another bomb to kill the Skulltula hanging from the ceiling just behind. Run behind to find a switch, trigger it to open more gratings.

Now, go back to the passageway and follow it clockwise until you come across a large Triforce symbol on the ground. Play Zelda's Lullaby here to open the other gratings. Look carefully at the right hand of the statue and you should notice a crystal switch sticking out, hit it to drain the well. Now, turn around, go straight to the treasure chest and open it to get the Dungeon Map. Go to the left and you should find an open cell with a crystal switch inside, hit it to open the door on the other side. Do not enter the door for now, but return to the beginning area.

Now that the well is drained, you can jump down into the hole. Crawl through the crawling hole there, then climb up the vine and go through the door to get to the miniboss of this dungeon, Dead Hand. He works just like in regular OoT - get grabbed by one of the hands, then wait for him to come to you and slash him when he lowers his head. Once he's gone, a treasure chest will appear which contains the Compass. Do not leave yet, but bomb the top left rubble to obtain a small key. Now, return to the beginning area.

First Well Skulltula

After getting the Lens of Truth, take the northeast passage. It is full of invisible Skulltulas hanging from the ceiling, and at the end you'll find a Gold Skulltula.

Once back there, go to the northeast corner and crawl through the hole there. Once there, note that the door is locked, with seemingly no way to open it. But look carefully at the face on the wall to notice a tiny bit of a crystal switch sticking out - hit it to unlock the door, then go through it. The next room has a Floormaster and Wallmasters but simply go through and open the locked door at the end. There, bomb the rubble to reveal a switch, stepping on this switch makes another grating open. Now, return to where you found the Dungeon Map and drop down the now open hole behind it.

Step on the switch to make a treasure chest appear, then jump off the platform. Head to the southeast passageway, and once there play the Sun's Song to freeze all the Redeads hiding in the corner. Don't bother with them, instead run to the treasure chest and open it, it contains the Lens of Truth, which lets you see hidden enemies, passageways and fake walls. Now run back and climb the ladder all the way up to return to the main room.

Second Well Skulltula

Get to the door to the west of the Dungeon Map. Watch out, the room behind it is full of invisible monsters. Pull the grave there to reveal the Gold Skulltula.

Now, return to the door to the east of the Dungeon Map which you opened earlier. Inside, the room looks like a giant pit but by using the Lens of Truth, you'll be able to see the safe passage through. At the end, you'll find a small key, collect it and return to the beginning area. Unless you intend to collect the third Gold Skulltula in here, this key is useless since you're already done here, so leave the well the way you entered it.

Third Well Skulltula

Get to the west passageway. Drop down, climb the vines, and use the small key you collected to open the locked door. Watch out, just behind the door stands a Gibdo, so immediately pull out the Ocarina and play the Sun's Song to stun him. Go all the way to the back and you should see the Gold Skulltula hiding behind the right bird statue. Do not light the torches here, they will just reveal more Gibdos which you definitely don't want.

Shadow Temple

The Shadow Temple is the seventh dungeon of the game, and a very weird one at that. There are plenty of fake walls, guillotines, invisible spikes, and other fun things like that. You'll need the Lens of Truth and the Longshot to complete it.

Entering the Temple

[edit | edit source]

To get to the Shadow Temple, you must have completed the Water Temple, and also the Bottom of the Well mini-dungeon. After completing the Water Temple, go to Kakariko Village, and witness a cutscene in which a mysterious monster breaks loose from the Well. Sheik will then teach you the Nocturne of Shadow. To complete the Bottom of the Well mini-dungeon, you must obtain the Song of Storms in the Windmill as an adult, then return to the past and use it to drain the well, allowing access to Bottom of the Well.

After you do this and obtain the Lens of Truth, play the Nocturne of Shadow as an adult to warp to a ledge in Kakariko Graveyard. You can only get to this ledge by use of the warp song, but you can then get back down into the Graveyard, making this a helpful warp song even if you aren't going to the Temple. Anyway, go down the passage in the wall, stand on the platform, and use Din's Fire to light the torches, opening the gate to The Shadow Temple.

Getting the Hover Boots

[edit | edit source]

Once inside the temple, run forward until the wall, then pull out your Longshot and look to the right to see a Hookshot target. Latch yourself onto it to safely get across the pit, then continue by walking through the face.

In this room, there is a statue and multiple skulls. By using the Lens of Truth, you'll see that only one of the skulls is real, and the others are all fakes. You need to push the statue so it faces the real skull. If you fail, a trapdoor will open beneath your feet, but if you succeed, the path to the next part will open. The only problem is that you can't get over there... To solve that, look at the statue over where the grating is and you should notice two torches at the hands. Light them up with Fire Arrows and a platform will appear so you can get across. Follow the path down to the next room which appears to be a dead end with a Beamos, but try to go through the right rock wall and it turns out to be fake. Open the door behind it.

In this room you'll have to fight two Gibdos. Simply use the Sun's Song to stun them, then attack them one by one. Once they're dead, a treasure chest will appear containing a small key. Now return, and this time walk through the rock wall straight ahead and open the door. Here, you have to collect five silver rupees, which is made difficult by the spinning scythe. The two silver rupees in the middle can be collected by waiting until the scythe passes you, then quickly running to it and afterwards running to the wall. The third silver rupee in mid-air can be collected using the nearby Hookshot target and jumping off to collect it. Kill the Skulltula guarding the left alcove and get inside to claim another silver rupee. The last silver rupee is guarded by another Skulltula. Once all five silver rupees are collected, the grating will disappear allowing you to go through. Inside, kill the Skulltula there and open the chest to claim the Dungeon Map.

Now, return all the way to the first room with the bird statue. Strike your sword at all the faces at the wall, one of them should make a hollow noise. Plant a bomb there to destroy the wall, and then go through and unlock the door. In here, there are loads of fake walls. You could of course just use the Lens of Truth, but an easier way is to look at the eyes of the drawing (fake walls have glowing eyes). Go right and to the first door you encounter. Inside, there are four Redeads for you to kill. Use the Sun's Song to stun them, then strike. (You could just use Din's Fire for an easy kill) This will cause a treasure chest to appear containing the Compass.

Go outside, and go to your right. At one spot at the wall Navi will glow green, here play the Song of Time to make a Temple of Time block disappear allowing you to go through. On the other side, there are three eye switches to your left. Only the middle one is real (the two others are enemies), so shoot it. Then go into the northwest corner, pass through the fake wall and open the door....

Miniboss: Dead Hand

[edit | edit source]

This battle with Dead Hand is exactly the same as it was in the Bottom of the Well mini-dungeon, but now you have an advantage: the Lens of Truth. If you use it, you will see a very obvious dark shadow on the ground. That signifies where Dead Hand is hiding. Go to the hand farthest from that point, and get captured by it. Then, quickly struggle to break free, then attack Dead Hand when he lowers his face. You can only get in one hit, so make it a jump attack. Two jump attacks from the Biggoron's Sword (which you should have by now, otherwise, check out the Trading Sequence. Once you kill him, a Treasure Chest will appear. Open it, and obtain the Hover Boots. These boots are similar to the Iron Boots (i.e. they function as items in the 3DS version, but as upgrades in any other version, and are a pain to put on). However, instead of weighing you down, they instead allow you to briefly walk on thin air (don't ask me how that works). As a downside, though, they have no traction. Also, a cool trick with them is that you can walk over invisible crystal spikes without getting hurt!

Delving Deeper into the Dungeon

[edit | edit source]

Now, return to the room with the single Beamos. Walk through the left wall to return to the scythe room. This time, get to the alcove with a face at the wall. It will tell you to come over if you want a "ferry to another world". Approach it and you'll fall through an invisible hole. You are actually now much deeper in the dungeon, however, a large block is stopping you from continuing. Kill the invisible Skulltula near the brown block with the Longshot. There's also an invisible treasure chest here, open it for a small key, then return to the room with the Beamos. Plant a bomb at the east rock wall to blow it up, then unlock the door and go through. Go down the passageway, but be careful because there's a Beamos just around the corner. Kill it with bombs, then continue through the floor spikes, behind them a Skulltula will come down from the ceiling so kill it.

At the bottom you'll see two guillotines and a Beamos. Jump down, then first throw bombs at the Beamos to kill it (the bombs pass freely through the guillotine so don't worry), then run across when the blades are moving up. Continue and you'll be in a large area. The first guillotine moves very fast and so is very tricky to pass. Pass through it, jump down and you'll see two Beamos on the other side, kill them by shooting arrows at the bombflower. Just as you approach to jump, a Red Bubble will pop out so be careful.

Once at the bomb flower, walk to your left and pull out your Lens of Truth - there are invisible platforms here. Jump on the first one, then look down to notice a frozen eye switch, use a Fire Arrow to unfreeze it (you first need to disable the Lens of Truth because otherwise it won't work). Jump onto the next invisible platform and open the door at the end. Follow the path, and at the end kill the Like-Like first. You need to collect five silver rupees here, but there are ten silver rupees here - some are simply fake. Collect all of the ones in the middle and then get to the corner where the last one is. Play the Song of Time and a Temple of Time block will appear allowing you to get the last one, which opens the grating. Inside, the visible chest just contains a Blue Rupee, but there's an invisible chest just next to it which contains a small key. Now, return to the beginning area.

First Shadow Skulltula

In the room with the falling spikes, there's a Gold Skulltula in the southern cell. Get inside and slash it to claim its token.

Return to the platform with the bomb flower. Cross the ice platforms until you come to another area. There are five silver rupees them, but ignore them (you get arrows if you were to collect them) and instead get to the grating on the other side. Slash the crystal switch behind the grating to open it, then go through the passageway. In the next area, look to the right with your Lens of Truth to notice a brown block. Pull it out, then push it all the way forward to safely pass through the area. At the end, there's some higher ground that allows you to climb on top of the brown block - do so, then get to the other side and step on the switch there. This makes a treasure chest appear with a small key inside. (The other treasure chest here contains a Blue Rupee, and the chest at the bottom in the northern cell contains arrows.)

Return to the room with the Beamos and the spinning spikes. Walk on the narrow path and get to the guillotine where the sign stands. Behind the guillotine there are invisible platforms, so just jump across. Get onto the moving platform, then equip the Hover Boots and run across to the locked door, unlock and open it. Inside, there are Redeads, stun and kill them and a treasure chest will appear (it contains a blue rupee). Now, collect the silver rupees on the floor, but watch out - there are invisible spikes scattered across the room, and they hurt Link if he tries to walk over them. At the walls are Hookshot targets which you can use to collect two more silver rupees. Look at the ceiling to see two more Hookshot targets which again can be used to collect silver rupees. Now, while the remaining silver rupees look impossible to collect, look around with the Lens of Truth to notice invisible Hookshot targets which can be used to collect these. Use the Hover Boots to get the last one and the doors will unlock.

Second Shadow Skulltula

In the Redead room the Gold Skulltula is crawling on the face at the wall. Use the Longshot to kill it and get its token.

Open the locked door. Look around the corner to see fans. Run across when the wind isn't blowing (watch out for the Skulltula on the way). At the end, there's a gap, but you can use your Longshot to latch yourself onto the wooden bar to get across. At the end, there's fans blowing from the side, use your Iron Boots here to safely get across and open the door at the end. Inside there are four Redeads, play the Sun's Song to stun them and then kill them. Afterwards open the invisible chest in the corner to get the small key, then exit the room.

Third Shadow Skulltula

After having killed the two Gibdos, bomb the rubble in the northwest corner to uncover the Gold Skulltula hiding inside.

The Ghostly Ship

[edit | edit source]

Use the Lens of Truth to notice a hidden passage to the right. Equip the Hover Boots and run there when the fan is blowing so it pushes you across, once there open the door. As always, stun and kill the two Gibdos here (you'll get a blue rupee for your efforts), then continue through the locked door. Does this room look familiar? Its the same one that we went down to get a small key, but a brown block stopped us from going any further. Pull that same brown block into the depression so it sinks down, and now you have a shortcut to the upper floor (however ,whatever you do, don't go to the upper room before you have pulled the block as far as it can go, otherwise you will be unable to return). You can now jump on the block, climb up the ladder and get on the ship. On the large Triforce symbol play Zelda's Lullaby which causes the ship to start moving. Your voyage will be accompanied by some Stalfos, kill them or wait until they fall off the ship on their own. At the end when you see solid ground to your left, jump off as the ship will sink soon.

Fourth Shadow Skulltula

Once the bird statue has fallen down, walk halfway on it, then turn around and look into the pit to notice a Gold Skulltula hiding here. Kill him with the Longshot and grab his token.

Across the pit you'll see a bunch of bomb flowers. Shoot them with an arrow to make the bird statue fall down, creating a bridge. Cross the bridge, then walk to your right to see a Temple of Time block next to a gray block. Play the Song of Time to make the Temple of Time block disappear, which will uncover an eye switch. Hit it to make some Hookshot platforms appear. Jump onto the one right next to you, then look up to notice another Hookshot platform up high. Latch yourself on it and step on the switch there to unlock the door. Cross the bridge again and walk through the door at the west.

The Boss Key

[edit | edit source]

This room looks completely empty at first, but use your Lens of Truth to notice it's actually a large maze. Walk to the north, then go around the corner and kill the Like-Like there, afterwards continue going to the west door and enter it. Ignore the vases, but run behind them and collect the small key lying on the ground. Go back into the maze, and this time make your way to the north door, unlock and enter it.

Final Shadow Skulltula

In the room before the boss door, the Gold Skulltula is hanging at the side of an invisible platform. To kill it, you need to get up to this invisible platform and kill it from above.

Here, there are two wooden spike walls that move together to crush you. Use Din's Fire to burn them down, then quickly kill all the Fire Keese that have now turned up. Afterwards open the treasure chest to the right to collect the Big Key (watch out for the invisible Skulltula). The other treasure chest just contains a blue rupee. Return to the invisible maze room, and if you need more arrows, take the south door (it isn't actually necessary)

Won't this guy die already?

[edit | edit source]

If you did enter the south room to get more arrows (which you will need for the dungeon boss), you will notice a bunch of Bomb Flowers. Also, if you use the Lens of Truth, you will see a dark shadow on the ground, like when you fought Dead Hand.

This battle with Dead Hand is easier than the others. Just look for him with the Lens of Truth, shoot an arrow at the nearest Bomb Flower, and then he will arise. When he lowers his face, jump attack him. Repeat. He will quickly die, and a chest will appear, containing... arrows. Rather useless. However, you will need them (a lot of them) for the final boss battle in this dungeon.

To the Boss

[edit | edit source]

Return to the bird statue room (take the east exit in the maze) and unlock and open the south door on the other side this time. Here, there are multiple invisible platforms, use your Lens of Truth to see them and walk across to the boss door and open it. (Note: the more fairies you have with you, the better. Bongo Bongo might kill you multiple times before you vanquish him. Also, make sure that you have plenty of magic power)

Phantom Shadow Beast: Bongo Bongo

[edit | edit source]

You find yourself in a room with a hole in the center, similar to King Dodongo's boss room. There's nothing else to do here but jump down...

You will fall down (don't worry, you won't take damage), and find yourself on a large, circular white surface, surrounded by a pool of poisonous liquid (hint: don't go into that pool). A disembodied pair of hands will begin drumming on the surface (which is a drum, presumably a bongo), and then a creepy floating, one-eyed body will appear, the boss music will play, and: Phantom Shadow Beast: Bongo Bongo

Bongo Bongo's main body will immediately disappear, but his hands will remain. There are two strategies for defeating Bongo Bongo, with Ice Arrows or without. However, either way, DON'T USE THE HOVER BOOTS! You might think that the dungeon item would help defeat the dungeon boss, but that just isn't so. The only items you will need are the Lens of Truth and the Fairy Bow (and, of course, your trusty sword).

Without Ice Arrows

[edit | edit source]

This is the strategy if you don't have the optional Ice Arrows from the Gerudo Training Grounds (you can actually get them before beating the Shadow and Spirit Temples).

What you have to do is shoot each of Bongo Bongo's hands so that they are both stunned at the same time. This is actually much harder than it sounds, for two reasons. First of all, Bongo Bongo is constantly drumming, so it's often very hard to actually hit one of his hands. Secondly, if you take too long, Bongo Bongo will grab, smack, or other wise attack you. If he grabs you, he will suck out life energy like a ReDead, and possibly throw you into the poisonous liquid. Once you have stunned both hands, use the Lens of Truth, to see that Bongo Bongo is preparing to rush at you. Shoot him with the Bow, and then slash at him with your sword (jump attacks work best, especially from the Biggoron's Sword). After a couple rounds, he will die.

With Ice Arrows

[edit | edit source]

This is the strategy if you have the optional Ice Arrows from the Gerudo Training Grounds (you can actually get them before beating the Shadow and Spirit Temples).

The Ice Arrows make this battle much easier, however, some caveats. You cannot shoot a magical arrow (Fire, Ice, or Light) while the Lens of Truth is active. So, when you are shooting Bongo Bongo's eye, you will have to switch to regular arrows. Also, it's still equally hard to actually hit Bongo Bongo's hands; the Ice Arrows don't change that.

With the Ice Arrows, you only have to shoot one of Bongo Bongo's hands. It will freeze, and then the other one will hammer at it and try to break it, effectively incapacitating both of them! Now, switch the regular arrows. Activate the Lens of Truth so that you can target Bongo Bongo's eye (just make sure that neither of the hands are in the way of your arrows). Shoot his eye with the Arrow, and he will crash to the ground, vulnerably to the sword. Repeatedly hit him with jump attacks (preferably from the Biggoron's Sword). After a couple rounds, he will die.

Bongo Bongo's Death

[edit | edit source]

After you defeat him, Bongo Bongo will become a dark puddle on the drum, and then evaporate. Congratulations! You just beat possibly the hardest boss in the game! Don't forget to grab the Heart Container, then warp out. Impa will tell you that she is the Sage of Shadow, and that Princess Zelda is safe. Then, you get the Shadow Medallion. On to the Spirit Temple!

Spirit Temple

As in the original game, the Spirit Temple is reached by crossing the Haunted Wasteland and learning the Requiem of Spirit from Sheik in the Desert Colossus.

[edit | edit source]

Play the Requiem of Spirit and warp to the Desert Colossus. Now go into the Spirit Temple.

In the entrance room, the treasure chest that you'll find contains Bombchus. On the other side of the wall, there's a crystal switch that when hit, makes another chest full of Bombchus drop down. Now, use a regular bomb to destroy the rock behind the snake statue, then hit the eye switch to make a third chest drop down, which contains a Small Key.

Talk to Nabooru and say that you are doing nothing. She will then ask you to find the Silver Gauntlets. Crawl through the hole she was standing in front of. On the other side, you'll find a bunch of torch slugs, which are super dangerous because your Kokiri Sword won't even put a dent into these things. You need to jump attack them if you want to hurt them. Once they're gone, the two doors will open. (Hitting the eye switch, by the way, turns off the fire guarding the Recovery Hearts.)

Go through the right door and first of all get rid of the Gibdo you see. Pull back the right grave to reveal a switch that will open the grating. Pull out a Bombchu and place it so it will travel through the open grating and destroy the rock on the other side. This will reveal an eye switch that, when hit, makes a platform appear allowing you to jump across. Destroy the two Gibdos on the other side as well to make the door to the next room open.

You'll come across a large spinning platform. Jump on it and a Stalfos will appear. Either kill it the regular way, or knock it down the bottomless pit to make the fire disappear and the doors open. In the next room, get rid of the Keese, then pull back the grave to reveal a switch that will make the grating fall down to form a bridge. Cross it and open the chest on the other side to get the Dungeon Map. Kill the Anubis with Din's Fire and once all the enemies are gone, a treasure chest containing another Small Key will appear. Go through the door to return to the Torch Slug room.

If you try to crawl through the hole, you'll notice it's blocked by a rock. Use a Bombchu to destroy the rock and you can crawl through. Go through the locked door. Here, you'll face great danger - a Like-Like is above you, and as soon as you hit the crystal switch to open the gate, it will drop down on you. If you have Din's Fire, you can simply use it to kill the Like-Like (it will not trigger the crystal switch), otherwise be prepared for a fight. Once this is done, climb up the wall.

There is much to do in this room and it is complicated by the presence of a wallmaster. Pay attention to your shadow or risk being sent to the beginning. Kill the Beamos and the two Baby Dodongos here to make a chest with more Bombchus appear. Target the boulder at the wall and use a Bombchu to destroy it, which will make a treasure chest appear - except you cannot reach it, so go through the locked door. Jump down and shoot the eye switch at the left side of the statue, then go to the treasure chest in front of the statue to get the Compass. Turn around and unfreeze the frozen eye switch with Din's Fire, then go through.

This room may seem like a dead end, but look down the pit and you'll discover an eye switch. Hit it and open the treasure chest that appear to obtain a Small Key. Go back through the door, climb up the wall to the left (where you originally came from) and go upstairs. Go to the right and look down the pit to notice a blue block with a crate on it. Jump down onto the blue block, pick up the crate, turn toward the wall and play the Song of Time. Another blue block will appear, making it easy to jump back to where you were (you can also skip the second block and jump straight over the railing, but it's trickier). Walk back upstairs holding the crate. Once back up, play the Song of Time to make the blue block move up, allowing you to jump across with your crate. From here jump onto the statue's right hand (i. e. your left) and drop the crate to open the door at the top, allowing you to go through.

In the passageway run across while the flamethrower's inactive. Go through the door to enter a small puzzle. Hit the crystal switch with the slingshot to make the flames go out. Go to the other side to find two blocks with sun faces next to each other. Pull the back block into the light to make the doors open. (The other one makes a chest containing a Recovery Heart appear. Don't push any of the other blocks into the light.) Shoot the crystal switch again and get across. Here, kill the Skulltula and then continue.

You'll now have to face an Iron Knuckle. The first thing you should know is that its axe hurts a lot, so avoid it at all costs. The easiest way to get rid of him is making him use his axe, then jump attacking him and getting back again. Alternatively, you can simply lob your bombs at him. If you need some health, let the Iron Knuckle destroy the pillars for some refills. Once he is killed, the door behind him will open. Go through and once outside, open the chest to get the Silver Gauntlets! You'll then see Nabooru getting abducted...

Return here as an adult to do the second part.

[edit | edit source]

The water jet to the east is absolutely impassable. Instead, look up at the ceiling to notice a rock. Use a well-placed Bombchu to hit the rock which reveals a Longshot target, then pull yourself up. Use the Silver Gauntlets to push the block forward into the pit, then go through the door to arrive in the statue room.

Following past footsteps

Follow the steps given in the child section to get to the room with the blocks with sun faces. Push the southeast block (next to the crystal switch) into the light. This will make a platform appear, use the Hookshot target to get on top of it and you'll be able to reach a Gold Skulltula from up here.

Climb up the west wall and go through the door to return to the room with the unreachable chest. With the Longshot, you can now reach it to get a Small Key. Hit the crystal switch, then jump down the passageway and go through the door here. Hit the rusted switch with the Megaton Hammer to make a treasure chest appear. Return to the room with the statue and this time go up the stairs. On the other side you'll see a Floormaster as well as a torch. First kill the Floormaster with your bow, then use the Longshot on the torch to get across. Go upstairs and enter the locked door.

Use your Longshot and pull yourself to the Hookshot target on the ceiling to get through the passage unscathed. In the next room, kill all four Beamos here to make a chest appear (it contains just arrows, though). Play the Song of Time next to the blue block on the ground and it will appear on the other side of the room. Go across and play the Song of Time twice (yes you read that right). This will make a small crate appear, which you should drop on the switch at the other side of the room to make the door open. Go through to the next area.

First of all tackle the two Dinofols that appear here. Opening the chest you see just freezes you in a block of ice, but slash it with your sword and the door to the next area will open. Here, you'll have to fight an invisible Floormaster - use the Lens of Truth and shoot arrows at it, then turn off the Lens and use Din's Fire to get rid of the small hands, this will make the door ahead open. In here, you'll have to fight another Iron Knuckle. Thanks to your better sword, he's easier than he was as a child, so duke it out with him, then go through the door. Outside, open the chest to obtain the Mirror Shield.

Get back to the Dinofols room. Jump onto the blue block and use your Mirror Shield to reflect light onto the sun face, this will make the other door open. A Gibdo awaits you on the other side, so immediately pull out your Ocarina and play the Sun's Song, then slash him. Open the chest he was guarding to get the Big Key. Return to the statue room.

Here, there are three torches that need to be lit - two to the sides of the statue, and one in front. It's hard to find a position where you have a clear shot at all three - the best one may be the blue block with the crate on it. Use Fire Arrows to light all three torches, which will make the lower door on the east side open. Use your Longshot to get across and go through.

This room is extremely dangerous. You have two Stalfos, and a Wallmaster to make it ever the more annoying, and you actually have to destroy it. Once these are gone, try to light the sun faces... except it doesn't seem to work, instead simply exit and reenter the room. The Stalfos and Wallmaster will be back, but the sun faces won't, so kill them again to open the grating. Jump down and go through the door.

Spider Skulltula

Go through the west door and look at the ceiling to spot the Gold Skulltula. Use your Longshot to kill it and claim its token. To get back out, play Zelda's Lullaby on the Triforce symbol on the ground to open the door.

Collect the Silver Rupee next to the door. Walk down to the water jet and turn around to find the second Silver Rupee. Destroy the boulder and hit the rusted switch with the Megaton Hammer to turn off the water jet, quickly run across to grab the third Silver Rupee. Back in the main room, destroy the two boulders beside the snake statues to find the other two Silver Rupees. Open the chest that appears for a Small Key.

Time-travelling Skulltula hunt

Use Farore's Wind and immediately return to your warp point and you'll be back on the other side of the water jet. (Alternatively, you can opt for a long backtrack.) Go through the locked door at the east. Kill the club moblin as he may be a bit of a nuisance, then hit the rusted switch to open a gate at the east side. Inside, play the Song of Time to open up a gate on the other side. In there, play Epona's Song to open a gate further up the wall. In there, play the Sun's Song. Go across to the next alcove and play the Song of Storms. Finally, go to the last gate and play Zelda's Lullaby which opens the door.
You'll immediately be ambushed by a swarm of Skulltulas. At the east wall, you'll also find a Gold Skulltula, use the Longshot and shoot it to claim its token. Now, return to the Temple of Time to become a child. As a child, return to the Spirit Temple. Crawl through the hole once again and provided you hit the rusted switch way back with the Megaton Hammer, you'll find a treasure chest with a Small Key in the room with all the torch slugs.

Rupee bonus

From the room with the Silver Rupees, you can get a total of 100 Rupees. Here's how:

  • Go through the west door and jump into the sandpit. Kill all the leevers that appear until a big purple one shows up. Kill that one and a treasure chest will appear, containing 50 Rupees.
  • Go through the east door and follow the Gold Skulltula guide to the room with lots of Skulltulas. Snipe them all with your Longshot (there's also an invisible one so watch out) and open the chest at the back of the room to get another 50 Rupees.

Return all the way to the room where all the Beamos were. Open the locked door on the other side. First of all, kill all the Fire Keese above you. You'll notice the wall here is full of Silver Rupees. Use your Longshot on the top segment that doesn't move and you should be able to get all of them just by falling down. Afterwards, Longshot the highest segment again and climb up, watching the Torch Slug that patrols up there, and go through the now open door.

Helpful miniboss

In the room with all the snake statues, go to the end where the bars are and enable the Lens of Truth to discover an invisible chest with a Small Key inside. Return all the way to the room with the Triforce symbol and open the locked door. Hit the Iron Knuckle to wake him up, and make him destroy the north and west statues to reveal two Gold Skulltulas. Kill them and grab their tokens, then run outside (no need to kill the Iron Knuckle).

Play Zelda's Lullaby on the Triforce symbol to open the next door. Here, drop down and destroy the crates until you come across a rusted switch, hit it with the Megaton Hammer to make the next door open. Go through and kill all the enemies you find here. Use your Mirror Shield to deflect light onto the sun face, which will cause the fire further down to go out for a while. Run down to the end and push the snake statue so the mirror faces the bars. Now return to the other snake statue and rotate it so the light is reflected all across the passage to the end.

Now go back to the previous room and jump down. Reflect the light onto the sun face and the entire platform will move downward. Immediately watch out for the Wallmaster trying to grab you - you should kill it to give you an easier time. Deflect the light onto the statue's face to make it crumble, then use the Longshot at the gate to pull you to it. It will automatically open to let you through, so open the boss door...

Mini-boss: Nabooru (Brainwashed)

[edit | edit source]

Nabooru has been brainwashed to be an Iron Knuckle. This fight isn't much different from the previous two. If you want, you can simply drop your remaining Bombchus here, since they won't be of much use ahead in your quest. After enough hits, the Iron Knuckle's armor will fall off to reveal Nabooru, however she is quickly captured. Go ahead through the door and climb the platform to fight the boss...

BOSS: Twinrova

[edit | edit source]

This fight isn't any different from regular Ocarina of Time. In the first part, use your Mirror Shield to deflect one witch's magic onto the other. After enough hits, they'll join to form Twinrova. Now, use your Mirror Shield to capture three of the same spell, then hit her with it as the shield releases its stored power and get a few hits on with your sword. Repeat this procedure until she's dead.

Ganon's Castle

Main area

[edit | edit source]
The Iron Knuckle is hard to fight in the crammed entrance area. Use explosives to hit him from a distance.

Just as you go forward, you'll see two Green Bubbles patrolling the staircase. Dispose of them with your bow and continue. You need to kill all the enemies to open the door leading into the main room. The two Armos Statues should be no problem since they can't actually engage you from the pillars they're standing on. The Iron Knuckle is the real problem here, because of the floor spike, the lack of health refills in this room as well as the awkward room layout. You may want to resort to bombs to kill him at a distance. Once all enemies are gone, the door will unlock and you can go through.

You're now in the main area. There are six barriers here which prevent access to the central tower where Ganondorf dwells. You will need to complete six trials to dispel the barrier, each of the trials being based on a particular temple you have visited before. Even though it may not seem like it, these trials have to be beaten in a specific order. If you need to heal, there's a secret passage right below the entrance - drop down and look for a secret passage using your Lens of Truth, it leads to a room with lots of fairies and Business Scrubs. Once you're ready, start off by entering the Forest trial directly to your right.

Forest trial

[edit | edit source]
Don't forget to take the key on top of the door!

The first room starts off with a rather straightforward fight against two Stalfos. Once they're gone, look above the door - there's a small key and a fan there. Use the Longshot to pull yourself up to the torch, then run across when the wind isn't blowing (or just use the Iron Boots) to get the Small Key. Continue by going through the door.

The next room is a real challenge. There are lots of fans and Beamos statues scattered all across the room that are just there to make life hard for you. There are two eye switches here, but shooting them is of no use (you get bombs and arrows if you were to do this). Look to your right to notice a fan. Equip the Hover Boots, and once the fan starts blowing, run into the air stream to be blown to the platform on the right with a Beamos on it. Quickly kill it with bombs before it can hit you (or stun it by shooting its eye), and run across the platforms until you're at the locked door on the other side, destroying all the Beamos on your way.

Playing the Song of Time here will cause this Armos Statue to fall onto the switch and keep the door open for you.

Once you're at the locked door, wait until the fan to the right of the locked door (with a Beamos right in front of it) is not blowing, then get on the platform and equip the Iron Boots so the wind won't blow you away. Play the Song of Time to move the nearby block down and reveal an Armos Statue. Play the Song of Time once more and the block will move back up, but the statue will drop down onto the switch which opens the door. Now, jump back across and go through the door. Shoot the Forest Barrier with a Light Arrow to dispel it.

You'll be returned to the main area. Go to the right and enter the Water trial.

Water trial

[edit | edit source]
With the Hover Boots, roll into the water jet and pull out the bottle to easily catch the Blue Fire.

Once you enter the room, you'll find that it is full of Freezzards. You may want to use Din's Fire to get rid of all of them easily. In the center there's a Blue Fire flame, but it is covered by a water jet. There are two ways to get to the Blue Fire: for the first, go to the right and you'll notice a single of Dead Hand's hands just standing there. Kill it with your sword and strike the pillar behind it which will make the water jet go out for a short period of time. The second, and easier, way is to simply equip the Hover Boots, roll into the water jet and pull out your bottle, which will make Link catch the flame just as well.

The chest to the left inside the red ice just contains 20 Rupees. Instead, go forward to the door and release the Blue Fire to melt the red ice blocking it. Catch some more Blue Fire and go through the door using the leftover Small Key from the Forest trial to enter a block puzzle.

In here, you'll have to collect five Silver Rupees. First of all, pull out your bow and get rid of all the Keese flying around (beside those you see, there's also an invisible one here). Jump down and fall into the hole in the middle to get your first Silver Rupee. Go to the back and jump across the pit (the Hover Boots make this easier) for the second one. In an alcove beside the blocks you'll find the third one, and by jumping from one of the blocks to the other you can get the fourth one as well.

Push this block forward and to the right so it falls into the pit. This allows you to push the other block into the alcove so you can reach the fifth Silver Rupee.

For the fifth one, grab the block furthest away from the wall and push it to the small rock ahead, then push it to the right so it falls into the pit where one of the Silver Rupees was. Afterwards, go to the other block, push it forward across the now closed pit, then left twice so it moves into the alcove. Climb the block and up you'll find the Silver Rupee inside a block of red ice. You do not actually need to melt the ice - simply jump attack the red ice block and you'll get the Silver Rupee, opening the door.

The door, however, is unreachable. Exit and re-enter the room to reset the blocks' positions. Push the block straight ahead to the now unlocked door and use your Blue Fire to melt the red ice barrier. Go through the door, and shoot a Light Arrow at the Water barrier to dispel it.

Once back in the main area, go to the right and into the Shadow trial.

Note: If your jars are empty, go out and refill it with fairies to help continue with your survival.

Shadow trial

[edit | edit source]

This is another Silver Rupee puzzle. First of all, you should kill the Green Bubble flying around right in front of you. From here, it may seem like there is no way to continue, but shoot the bomb flower you see at the right to make a treasure chest appear on the other side. Use your Longshot to latch yourself to it, then open it if you want (it contains arrows).

This invisible platform serves to get you across the pit.

Here, look forward and take out the Lens of Truth and you'll discover an invisible platform that moves diagonally across the pit. Equip the Hover Boots and walk over to it as it moves towards you (it's kind of tricky). From here you can collect the first Silver Rupee, and by walking over to the bomb flower you shot earlier, you can get the second Silver Rupee as well. Walk over to the platform with the Beamos and kill it, as it hides the third Silver Rupee.

Here, you may notice a torch submerged into the ground. Use a Fire Arrow to light it and a platform will appear so you can get across the next pit. Get on the platform, pull out your bow and turn around to discover an eye switch, which will make a treasure chest appear. Walk over and open it to get a Small Key. Use the Lens of Truth again and you'll notice an invisible path branching off to the left. Follow it to a lone platform with a Beamos, kill it to acquire the fourth Silver Rupee.

You'll need careful timing to make it across the small gap in the path without getting hit by the guillotine.

Return to the previous platform. With the Lens of Truth you can see another invisible path leading to the exit. However, there's a gap with a guillotine on the way, and if you are not careful it will hit you and knock you down the pit, forcing you to start over. While crossing the gap you'll collect the last Silver Rupee on your way, which opens the door at the end. Go through and shoot a Light Arrow at the Shadow barrier to dispel it.

Once back in the main room, go to the right. You can't do the Fire Trial right now, so continue walking around until you come across the Spirit trial. Enter it.

Spirit trial

[edit | edit source]
Make sure the Iron Knuckle destroys the pillars in the center. It is your only way to continue!

As soon as you enter, kill the two Fire Keese and the Torch Slug. Turn around and you'll see a depressed eye switch above the door you just came through. Shoot it and an Iron Knuckle will appear in the room. You'll have to fight him, but make sure he destroys the pillars in the center of the room, as they hide a rusted switch that is the only way to continue. Kill the Iron Knuckle, and use the Megaton Hammer on the rusted switch to open the door to the next area.

In here, immediately kill the Green Bubble right in front of you. Open the chest you see to get some Bombchus. Look at the bars and you'll see an opening at the ceiling. Stand right below the opening, turn your back to it and drop a Bombchu - if you positioned it correctly, it should run up the wall, go through the opening and hit the crystal switch on the other side, which opens the door. Go through and kill the Green Bubble you find here as well.

The right sun face you see here will give you the Golden Gauntlets. The Spirit symbol above the door hides a sun face as well, which opens the door ahead.

The path ahead has a Gibdo and two Redeads. Play the Sun's Song to stun then, then walk through to the room with all the sun faces and use Din's Fire to kill all the threats. Look above you to notice a spider web, shoot a Fire Arrow at it and it will burn down, allowing light to pass into the room.

First of all, shine light onto the sun face to the right of the locked door. A treasure chest will appear, open it to get the Golden Gauntlets! Now, turn around exactly 180 degrees and you'll be facing a sun face that, when lighted, makes a treasure chest with a Small Key appear. To continue, stand in front of the locked door and reflect light onto the Spirit symbol above it. A sun face hides behind, which opens the door when activated. Go through and shoot a Light Arrow at the Spirit barrier to dispel it and return to the main room.

With the Golden Gauntlets, you can now go and get the double health upgrade from the Great Fairy just outside of Ganon's Castle. Once you're ready, walk around the main room to notice a large black block. With the new Golden Gauntlets, you can lift it to reveal the door to the Light trial, which is your next destination.

Light trial

[edit | edit source]

In the first room, you're pitted against two Torch Slugs and a Dinofol. The Torch Slugs are very annoying in their habit to ambush you so you might want to take them out first before bothering with the Dinofol. Once all enemies are dead, the door to the next area will open. Here, there's a Triforce symbol where you can play Zelda's Lullaby but it's worthless (you get a Recovery Heart if you try), so instead go ahead and open the locked door.

Here, you're in a room with a rolling boulder and a Beamos in the center. If you try to walk around you'll see that flame walls prevent your progress. While the Beamos is not facing you, throw a bomb at it to kill it, which will allow you to see a Hookshot target at the ceiling. Use it to safely get across the room, and open the locked door at the end to get through.

At the end, slash the right torch with your sword. This will open up the path ahead to the barrier!

This room may now seem like a trap, because there is no barrier to disspell. What to do? Go to the right torch and hit it with your sword. As it turns out, a crystal switch is hidden inside. With it enabled, try to go through the wall and you'll just pass through. On the other side, you'll finally find your Light barrier, which you can shoot with a Light Arrow to dispell it.

Once back in the main room, go to the left to enter the Fire trial.

Fire trial

[edit | edit source]

As soon as you enter, equip the Goron Tunic and the Hover Boots. This is a very difficult Silver Rupees puzzle and it will probably take you lots of retries. You'll have to restart if you fall into the lava at any point.

Jump to the platform moving back and forth. At the right you'll see a pattern of four platforms. Get to the right one at the back and it will launch you upward. Backflip from here to get the first Silver Rupee, and be sure to not fall off the platform and into the lava while you do this!

Now, look to the left and you'll see a platform with two Torch Slugs and a black block. Walk across it and throw the black block away - it will serve as a stepping stone later on. You should notice a Silver Rupee over the lava - wait until the moving platform gets over there then jump on it to grab that rupee. Look ahead to see a Hookshot platform, use your Longshot to get to it (immediately climb up so you don't slip off into the lava right away!), then jump off to the left to grab another Silver Rupee.

Jump down onto the black block to grab a Silver Rupee - it's a very tricky jump!

From here, jump across to the next platform, and then to the right. It will launch you upward, and from here you'll have to get across to the black block you threw earlier to get the Silver Rupee on top of it. This jump is very tricky and hard to do, and it might be easier to try it as your platform moves down (or up) so you can control Link better.

Now, cross the platforms until you get to the one with the Beamos and the other black block. You'll need to time it so the moving platform comes to you as you're coming across, otherwise you'll just fall into the lava. Once there, immediately stun the Beamos and kill it with bombs. Throw the black block away and you'll see it was hiding the last Silver Rupee. Collect it to complete the puzzle.

A Hookshot platform will now appear beside the exit door. Walk back across the platforms and target it with your Longshot to get across. Go through the door and shoot a Light Arrow at the Fire barrier to dispel it.

With all the barriers dispelled, you can enter the central tower now. Cross the bridge and get inside.

Inside Ganon's Castle

[edit | edit source]

The inside of the tower is exactly identical to the one in plain Ocarina of Time, so refer to the OoT guide for details.

The Ganondorf and Ganon fights, including the escape sequence, are perfectly identical too.

Gold Skulltulas

The locations of Gold Skulltulas in the dungeons were changed in the Master Quest release. There is a section for the differently located Skulltulas after the full list for the regular Ocarina of Time game. If you follow the whole guide, there are also links down to the Master Quest locations in the dungeon's section. For the Gold Skulltulas found in the original game, see The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Gold Skulltulas.

In the room into which Ruto fell, the door near the vines to the upper room is protected by a blue tentacle. After you get rid of the blue tentacle enter the room where there are three invisible Keese. You can use the Lens of Truth to see them. Across the water is the Skulltula. Kill all the enemies to make a platform appear that can be used to get up to the Skulltula. Walk around either side of the web and use the Boomerang to collect the token. You can use Din's Fire to eliminate the web if you need more room to aim.

Alternatively, kill the three invisible enemies without the Lens of Truth by using the Targeting System: jump into the water and swim around until you are attacked. When this happens, get out of the water, lock on using the Targeting System and you will target the invisible foe. Shoot at it with the Fairy Slingshot, then repeat this procedure until you have killed all three enemies. If an enemy ends up where it won't attack you, target it from the water to locate it, get out of the water, then fire at the same location.

In the big room with all the Lizalfos, there is a false wall behind which you can hit a switch to reveal several Hookshot targets. Use those to get up onto the platform with a huge crack on top and play the Song of Time. Make your way onto the blue block that appears and use the Hookshot to get to the elevator the leads to the floor above. Continue from here until you reach a room with a rusted switch that triggers more Hookshot targets. Hit that and then the non-rusted switch to dissipate the fire and Hookshot up to it to move the block and reveal a Gold Skulltula.

One of them has a Small Key. Use it on the door you saw earlier and you will arrive in a room with a switch and unlit torches. Hit the switch, get on the middle water pillar (for lack of a better term) and use Din's Fire. The torches will light and you can advance to the next room. But it's still not over! Kill all the Dodongos in the room and Longshot up to the door that just opened. You will be back in the pool room. Break the crate with the Gold Skulltula but leave at least one crate alone. Gerudo Training Grounds

The Gerudo Training Grounds is a totally optional dungeon that can be accessed after you obtain the Gerudo's Token. To enter the dungeon, talk to the Gerudo woman in white who is standing outside of a blocked gate (not the big closed gate that leads to the Desert Colossus; a smaller one that leads into the Gerudo Fortress main building). If you pay her a small fee of ten Rupees, she will open the gate, allowing you to enter the Gerudo Training Grounds (Note: Each time you leave the dungeon, you will have to pay ten Rupees to get in again, so it's better to do it in one fell swoop, once you have the required items). If you complete the Gerudo Training Grounds you will get another Magic Arrow, the Ice Arrow. Like the Fire Arrow that you obtained after beating the Water Temple, the Ice Arrow uses up a small amount of magic power, and it temporarily freezes enemies on contact.

In order to fully complete the dungeon, you need all of the items from all of the Temples (and the Lens of Truth, the Iron Boots and the Fire Arrows).

Entrance

[edit | edit source]

You'll arrive in the large main room, with three doors leading inside the level. The middle door leads to the treasure of this temple, but you'll need to collect the small keys hidden in this level if you wish to collect it. The other two doors lead to the various challenges.

The two treasure chests in front of you contain arrows and bombchus. Turn around and shoot the eye switch above the entrance to unlock the right door, leading to the challenges. For every challenge, you'll get a short message on what to do.

First room

[edit | edit source]

You have a time limit of one minute. This can be quite difficult. Turn to the right and strike the Armos Statue here to kill it. Afterwards, slash the Dodongos to kill them, their explosion should damage the bunch of Lizalfos and Dinolfos roaming around. Once the Dodongos are gone, go for a full assault on the Dinolfos, time is limited! Once they're gone, a treasure chest will appear and the door will unlock. Open the treasure chest to get a small key, then go through the door to get to the next room. (If you need some health, strike the Spirit Temple symbol above the door with an arrow to make a fairy appear)

Second room

[edit | edit source]

This is a silver rupee puzzle. Falling in the lava forces you to restart. If you have them, equip the Hover Boots here, as they will make things much easier. If you don't, go back to the entrance room, take the other door, go through the rooms, and you will eventually come back to this one, on a higher ledge. There will be a rusted switch next to you, strike it to make a Hookshot target appear on the ledge that leads to the treasure room This makes it so that you can Longshot the target and then jump back down to bypass any need for the Hover Boots.

All the silver rupees are engulfed in fire. Look to the right to find an unlit torch, use a fire arrow to light it, which makes the fire go out temporarily. Collect the three silver rupees at the beginning and then return to the entrance. Latch yourself to the unlit torch using the Longshot, then light it up again once it goes out and collect the two remaining silver rupees (or, if you don't have the Hover Boots, latch on the the Hookshot Target on the ledge, and jump back down). This will unlock the door at the side and make a few Hookshot platforms appear, go through the door.

Third room

[edit | edit source]

Run forward and a Bari will drop down, take it out. Use a Fire Arrow to burn the spider web, then jump into the pool and equip the Iron Boots. Once down, you'll find some quite nasty Stingers among other enemies, take them out and afterwards collect all the silver rupees down there. A treasure chest will appear at the top once you have all the silver rupees, resurface and open it to get a small key.

Now, go all the way back to the entrance room and light the two torches with Fire Arrows to unlock the left door. Go through it to arrive in the next room.

Fourth room

[edit | edit source]

You get one minute of time to destroy the single Iron Knuckle there. Do not stand in the sand as that will make you an easy target for the Iron Knuckle, rather lob Bombs or release Bombchus to destroy the Iron Knuckle. Once it's gone, open the treasure chest if you want (it just has a blue rupee though), then continue by opening the door.

Fifth room

[edit | edit source]

You get 1:30 of time to collect all five silver rupees.

  • Go through the left passageway and turn to the left. Quickly stab the Freezzard before it ambushes you to claim your first silver rupee.
  • Go back, take the second passageway to the right (watch out for the Wallmaster) and go to the right again. Equip the Hover Boots and hover out to get the silver rupee standing above the pit. Alternatively, you can slowly walk toward the pit so that you fall off, but grab the edge, nabbing you the Silver Rupee in the process.
  • Turn around and go all the way up. Destroy the icicles to grab the silver rupee behind.
  • Go down and take the second passageway to the right. A flame wall stops your progress, take out your Longshot and look up to notice a silver rupee in front of a Hookshot target. Use your Longshot to get it, this may take some tries.
  • From the entrance, walk forward and target the Hookshot target at the top of the ledge. Once up, jump down to grab the Silver Rupee in mid-air.

Once all silver rupees are collected, the door will open. Go up to the ledge, use the Hookshot statue to get past the flame wall, and go through the door.

Sixth room

[edit | edit source]

You get one minute to destroy all the enemies. Take out the Longshot and take care of the three Skulltulas hanging from the ceiling. Afterwards, take out the two Stalfos using an offensive approach (remember, time is limited). Once you've done that, the door will unlock and a treasure chest will appear (it contains arrows). Push the block using your Silver Gauntlets and go through the other door there to reach the next room.

Seventh room

[edit | edit source]

The three spike enemies here shouldn't be a problem since they can't move out of their pits. The Freezzards are best taken care of using Fire Arrows (you can also go up to them if you're brave). Once all enemies are gone, a treasure chest appears (it contains a purple rupee).

Go to the previous room. You'll have probably noticed the torch burning in a blue flame, use a bottle to catch some Blue Fire there. Go over to the wall next to the chest and Navi will turn green, play the Song of Time here to make a block appear. Jump up, go through the wall (it's fake), and use the blue fire to melt the red ice blocking the door. Afterwards, go to the next area.

Eighth room

[edit | edit source]

You'll start on a high ledge. Jump down onto the circular platform to get your objective. You have to shoot arrows into the eyes of the statue so they're red while the circular platform spins around. You'll have to shoot all eyes in one go, but you have unlimited tries. This objective requires quite careful aiming, once you've managed to do it, the door will unlock and a treasure chest will appear (it contains Bombchus).

Look around in the fire pillars and notice that a crystal switch's hiding in one. Activate it to open a door at the top (don't bother going inside now, the room's empty). Go through the door at the lower level to continue.

Ninth room

[edit | edit source]

You get one minute of time to kill all the enemies. First, kill the Iron Knuckle any way you like, then take care of the two Torch Slugs. Once they're gone, the door will unlock and a treasure chest will appear (it contains arrows). Shoot the Spirit Temple symbol above the door to make another treasure chest appear inside the fire pillar. Run around the edge of the room to discover a switch that, when jumped on, disables the fire. Do that, then open the treasure chest for a small key. Afterwards, continue by going through the door.

Second room, second visit

[edit | edit source]

Use the Megaton Hammer to trigger the rusted switch next to you, this makes a Hookshot target appear on the high ledge. Latch yourself to it, then go through the passageway to end up in the treasure room.

Treasure room

[edit | edit source]

Go through the left and pass all the doors until you arrive in the middle. Break the wooden box there to uncover a rusted switch, trigger it with the Megaton Hammer to make the treasure appear in another room...

Return to the entrance room (go through the doors until you come across two doors, there take the right one at the wall). Take the left door and backtrack until you get to the statue room. This time, take the other door on the upper floor, and open the chest there to acquire the Ice Arrows.
